When JIF peanut butter had salmonella, I took the jar back to the store for a new one AND filled out the online form for a free coupon.
I've since started moving around and sleeping in a different place every night, so they'll never catch me.

(27,436 posts)I did at first, but the time it takes to fill out the paperwork and then it's forever until the payment is made, and you end up getting pennies because there are so many other plaintiffs, it just wasn't worth it.
But hey, as you said, you'll end up with 2 jars of peanut buter, so there's that.

(18,402 posts)a number of years ago, I got a notice from some legal firm (googled, found very legitimate) about a class-action suit regarding Facebook and use of biometric information (googled, also found legitimate, since my state had passed a law). All you had to do is confirm youd ever been tagged in a Facebook photo (yes/no). I thought, okay, why not. My spouse got same e-mail and said what the hell, might get $6. Neither of us post on Facebook, but weve been tagged occasionally in friends or colleagues photos.
Well, a year later, we each received a check for something like $385. Nice surprise. And then just a while ago, we each got another small check ($40 each?) from distribution of funds left over from settlement due to people who failed to submit claims.
So sometimes its worth it.
