And if you do, is it analog or digital?
Did anyone break a lifelong habit of wearing a watch because of the ubiquitous iPhone?
I still wear a watch, analog. I probably own five others tucked away in drawers somewhere.

(121,860 posts)It's a fitness tracker that's also a watch, which I got when I decided to start walking during the pandemic to get some of the lard off my butt. But if I didn't have that I'd still wear my much more attractive Bulova analog watch.

(51,308 posts)I loved my fitness tracker, but left it in a hotel room in Ireland while late for a ferry, darn it.
I use my phone as a step counter now, and my current analog wristwatch is a Timex, with the Indiglo feature that I like so much.

(121,860 posts)because I lost so much weight walking every day for three years that it doesn't fit any more. The fitness tracker watch isn't as pretty but it's a great reminder to keep moving.

(51,308 posts)I walk a great deal myself. I really love walking, and my dogs enjoy it too. I've thought about getting another fitness tracker.
But I'd probably forget to charge it or lose it again. Sigh.

(58,304 posts)There's nowhere to answer if one doesn't wear a watch.

(51,308 posts)I rarely do polls. Not sure if I've done one before lol.
Maybe I can edit it?

(152,645 posts)I will ALWAYS wear it. It was a gift to me from my husband, way back when I was just starting nursing school.
It had to have a sweep second hand and I wanted it to have the date. It was perfect!

(187,726 posts)$45 at Sears I think.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)I think I got it at Walmart though, certainly less than that price, but in that range!
I love Timex, and I've loved the Expedition since they came out with it!
So strange, I have a clock with a lighted dial, I have an iPhone, but at night, I like that I only have to move a tiny bit to press the button and see the time.
No idea why I need to see the time, but old habits die hard lol.

(10,358 posts)I bought it when I was working at a jewelry store. Theres no way I could afford one today.

(2,930 posts)This is a beautiful instrument. I wouldn't be without it.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Probably when I couldn't afford it.
No idea what happened to it...probably left it on a dock or a boat, or dropped it overboard, or lost it in a wild night. Oh well.

(3,036 posts)A digital watch with an analog clock face. And some some Seiko watches as back up in the drawer.

(51,308 posts)WHY am I needing to see the time? Especially in the middle of the night?

(15,133 posts)I'm retired. I need a watch to tell me the day of the week and the date.
Previous one even reminded me of the year, which I sometimes forget.
It's always there, no need to pull the phone out of my pocket or the charger.
Laziness is the mother of invention.
And no, I don't ask Siri what time it is!!
Added benefit: It's really water resistant and cheap enough to just get a new one if I ruin it.

Pocket watches certainly count, but surely there aren't any digital ones lol?

(27,674 posts)Working with machinery most of my life, Ive seen too many injuries caused by these items getting caught. I had given up rings many years ago, but a close call more recently has convinced me to forsake the convenience.

(4,143 posts)since college. At 58 I could finally afford it, so bought it new on the grey market since it takes years to get a new one from an authorized dealer.
A watch is a nice piece of jewlery a man can wear. It's the only jewlery I wear besides my wedding ring.
I love my new watch and wear it proudly.

(51,308 posts)I took it off the other day because I got a nasty mosquito bite on my wrist, and I felt naked until I put it back on lol!

(36,414 posts)The only thing I really used it for was being on time for meeting commitments, but my watch broke and there were clocks everywhere so I didn't have it repaired. I also have my grandfather's gold pocket watch, likewise needing cleaning and maintenance.
I recently read Hands of Time, A Watch Maker's History by Rebecca Struthers. It rekindled some interest in watches and watch making, but good mechanical watches are still expensive to buy and maintain, and I just don't need one these days.

(31,204 posts)It's waterproof and I never take it off.
If and when the molded-on plastic wristband breaks, it's time to get another. This one has lasted me quite awhile because I can't remember when I bought it. The instructions are a real pain though. (Tap this twice to set the date, tap this three times to set the hour etc etc) Because of this, I don't mess with it. I don't change the time ever (traveling or from DST to CST...I just leave it on DST. )
I can't carry my phone with me everywhere. Right now I'm watering my lawn. Phone stays in the house. I'm always afraid I would loose my phone if I was constantly checking it for the time.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)I always carefully put the instructions in a safe place (which I promptly forget). Then I did the same thing you do, just kept the time on DST.

(71,014 posts)Those are my 3 watches. All analog.
The Movado doesn't even have numbers, just a diamond chip in a little gold crater at the 12. No second hand. Obviously, it's meant to give the approximate time.
All three were anniversary gifts (or retirement) from the company. The longer we're there, the more expensive the watch.
The last watch I actually bought was a Seiko, that's shaped like a Rolex Submariner. It was self-winding, but that stopped working. It's around here somewhere. Not sure it's worth getting fixed.
With watches like mine, they're kind of jewelery, too. So, I can't replace that with the phone.

(1,773 posts)dig out my phone (phones are notoriously filthy) or turn my wrist? No contest. Inexpensive Times analog.
