My grandson was working at a place in Sevier County, TN, called Jayell Ranch, because he likes being outdoors. It offers horseback riding, ziplining, and other adventurous things. When I was visiting a couple of weeks ago, he told us that the horses there were mostly in pretty bad shape--underfed, some with sores, left outside in all weathers, etc.--and that Animal Control had been called on several occasions. He didn't work with them, though' he worked on the ziplines, being a big, strong kid. Apparently several people quit, but not before posting pictures of the hoses on Facebook. Well, on Friday, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture showed up. Apparently the owner must have been tipped off beforehand (Sevier County is a bit, shall we say, corrupt) and had bought a bunch of new horses to add to the herd, but he didn't get rid of the old ones either. On Saturday, the owner tried to get the employees to sign NDAs...and they all, my grandson among them, WALKED OUT. Quit on the spot.

Needless to say, I am very proud of my grandson. Even though he didn't work with the horses, he knows better than to sign an NDA.

The bit about not calling EMS for a patron who'd been thrown from a horse until the office had been called? Can we all say "reckless endangerment?"
This asshole needs to be put out of business, period. He has no clue how to cope with either animals or people.
Good for the staff who told him to stuff it and walked out when he tried to pull that NDA crap on them to keep them from testifying against him. Uh, buster, that doesn't work that way.

(10,391 posts)We had a farmer here in Greene County who starved his sheep regularly. They were the saddest thinest creatures I ever saw. I tried to buy them off him to rescue them but he wouldn't sell. He wasn't getting much for his sickly little lambs at auction anyway. He was a nasty little man who thought he knew everything. He wouldn't sell to me because he didn't know my farm and thought I was just looking for a pet. I had 50 head of sheep at that time.
TDA came out and did nothing. Eventually, he went broke and a few of the remaining animals were rescued. They had hundreds of complaints and yet that cruel man was allowed to abuse those creatures for another year.

(14,161 posts)I have been around horses, but it has been a long time. My horse would not mind! It almost took off at a full gallop when it got to an open spot, like it wanted to escape. Never again!
