Body perfect; seats almost completely disintegrated.
Ended up selling it to an acquaintance who also has an Alpina, so I know its restoration will be top notch.

(3,379 posts)I had a 2001 Saturn. Blue. Not one single major repair ever. I believe a belt was the most costly thing it ever needed. Unfortunately, I had to give her up during the pandemic. She needed a new battery and new tires for inspection. Couldn't afford it. Landlord wouldn't allow me to keep it and I had no other place to store it, so I donated her. She's probably still happily running somewhere.

(55,134 posts)I was driving up was icy. I knew to get a running start or I would not make it. Didn't foresee the car in front of me getting stuck. I kept hitting the gas pedal and to make a long story short. I killed it. When we bought another car, I had to have it towed to the dealership. Still had to pay Credit Union the 4,000 I borrowed and more for the new car.

(33,643 posts)Matter of fact since 1991, I've had exactly 3 cars. All Acura's. The one before this one I had for 14 years, put over 300K miles on it and the biggest repair I ever had was the timing belt around the 1/2 way point. There was broken stuff I never repaired but mechanically the thing was a tank. 1997 Acura CL 3.0. That was a great car.
I've also never bought a new car in my life.

(6,492 posts)Like you, this is my third Acura in a row, going back to 1987. This one was top of the line so it has a lot of what were innovations back then (side airbags, navigation system, etc.). Will have its first 200k miles in another month or so.
Have had all the required maintenance, including the timing belt. I did have to replace the left front fender. Some hit-and-run AH drove their large truck into it in a parking lot years ago.

(9,332 posts)The water pump was the only thing past general maintenance. I put a new serpentine belt on and a few weeks later the water pump went. I think I may have over tightened the belt. Aside from that, oil, brakes, tires and fluids.
I am sorry to hear that about the Subaru. They are usually a great car. Run forever with few problems.

(7,574 posts)Last year, the car got hit while parked on the street - hit and run.
The insurance company wanted to total it because of the age. But because of the maintenance records, low miles, and lack of comparables, they relented and fixed it. Valued it at $3400.
Not bad for a 16 yo car.

(7,574 posts)For insurance, you need to find a comparable replacement car in a reasonably local market.
Because used car prices are higher now, it would cost more to replace the car with a comp than the Blue Book. I think the BB is just used for rip off used car dealers (IMO)

My fun car is 0 years old as its on order but not yet built. Scheduled for delivery in in the spring. Originally was going to be this year, but high demand and production delays have delayed things. I had the dealer adjust my order from this year to 2024 for that model year.

(2,453 posts)She sees cars as transportation only. Once she is used to it, that's what she sticks with. She doesn't even like driving rentals when we are traveling because she isn't used to the layout of the controls and how it handles, etc. Her previous car got hit and totalled. So we bought a new one of the same model so everything is basically the same.
I, on the other hand, love cars and love driving different ones. So I lease and switch it up every few years.

We sold our 1998 Mercury Villager in 2012 after the AC started dying. It wasn't worth it. We took it in for several AC repairs, but it was futile. AC would work for a day or it would barely work.
