Disputed disposition of a body question.

Anyone know how long a funeral parlor or crematorium will store a corpse in the situation of a contentious will in which many months may pass before an executor or estate administrator is assigned by the court?

We here were friends of a deceased person who died over four months ago and the court has not yet heard the case. One group of his relatives contends the body has been cremated and another says the funeral home is still waiting on instructions as to burial or cremation. We are trying to figure out what is going on...

TIA for any info.

There must be state laws addressing that issue, so it probably depends on where they are. Ocelot II Aug 2023 #1
It looks like different states have different laws concerning this. LuckyCharms Aug 2023 #2

Your friends should be able to get an answer from the funeral home, though.

I think your best bet would to be to ask any funeral director located in the state in which the body resides.
