(24,850 posts)Extreme crosswinds coupled with high profile trucks that are perhaps lightly loaded.
Interstate 80 across Wyoming is notorious for high winds, so this kind of thing happens often. Nebraska as well. I would include most of I-70 from Kansas City to Denver in that hazard too.
It could have been a microburst downdraft that was very localized, so the drivers had no warning.
Big central plains thunderstorms do weird things.
If it happens to you, it will ruin your day.

(52,910 posts)A semi is basically a sail with wheels on it. Most trucking companies will fire you for one rollover, but the one he was working for understands the winds they have in Montana and Wyoming and know that blowovers are not something you can really control.
Here's the worst part: the second time he was blown over was in a rest area when the truck was parked.
