(3,832 posts)We have a 10yr. old Hundai Santa Fe. It's OK but I liked our old Highlander - a bit higher up and I could "read the road" better. Also, Santa Fe driver side mirror mount has blind spot when you take a left turn. Can't see the damn curb.
Plus before I leave the planet I'd like a hybrid at the very least. Oh well, not too bloody likely I suppose.
No complaints, but we do a couple of Maine to VA trips a year to see grandchildren and I miss the Highlander on them treacheroso highways, doncha know. Speshly in PA.

(9,056 posts)between a '57 "Old Gold" Chevy, a 1976 Ford LTD 2 door, a 1965 Olds Starfire Convertible and a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL Fastback or convertible. I would probably opt for the 1963 Galaxie in Red with a black interior or vice versa for the Fastback and probably red with a white interior/top for the convertible. Big motor, bench seat and a 4 speed.

(4,858 posts)...The Duesie, because I love the Ellery Queen novels, and he drove an old Duesie all over the US. Just incredibly cool. The Edsel, because my Dad worked for Ford in the late 50s and he brought an Edsel home for a week and we drove in it. I was only 5, but I remember just how terrific a car it was. It's gotten maybe the most unfair rap of any product in history...

Awesome sound system.
Handled like a dream.
It was beautiful !!!
It burned to a crisp of the side of the highway.
It burned so hot 2 of the mags melted.
It left a huge burn spot for years until the road was repaved.

(11,849 posts)This beautiful piece of American heavy metal sold for about 15k in 1987. Today, these sell (depending on condition) from about 60k to 90k.
To find one is rare as there were only so many of them made and was the last year for the Grand National. This vehicle would have ate the 1987 Corvette for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Of course, we're talking going heavy on fossil fuels here.

(33,643 posts)I pretty much grew up crammed into the back of 1970 4/4, my parents are huge Morgan fans since I was like 5 years old. My young life in Cali was all Concourse's and Morgan Club trips and rallies. They still have that ride.
Hell their 4th one is one they keep in England for when they travel there to putter about with UK Morganers. THAT one I kinda hope they sell sometime soon, I really don't want to have to navigate that whole 'foreign-owned car' situation.
They know Peter Morgan personally, been to the factory probably 10 times in Malvern. I've been there too in 1977 as a 5th grader. My mom and couple others organized a "Morgan's Over New Zealand" trip I think about 10 years ago, and people shipped their rides from like 10 countries to do a two week trip in the NZ countryside.
I could go on but you get the gist
Here's the 4/4 they keep in the UK:

Some more pics from 2019 when "Morgans over America" came through Tucson and Scottsdale and I went to gatherings at each stop since I live in Mesa. Again organized by my mom and a few other Morgan Club members. Cars came from 5 or 6 countries for the 3 week journey.

Of course one rich-ass Morgan owner had to show off his new McLaren he took on the journey instead of his Morgan.

My sweet mama wanted a powder blue one, but she never learned to drive anything but an automatic. She drove the heck out of her automatic Volkswagen Rabbit, though. My best friends grandma other taught my mom to drive when I was in high school. We were a one car family before then.

(17,757 posts)two door convertible, blue and white please. The automatic transmission version would be about right. That was the "hot car" in the days when I was in high school. My second choice would be a 67 Fairlane, the car I got laid in the first time. I will always have a soft spot for that car.
I have never been a car jock. My whole life I have bought sensible compact cars. Today, I drive a KIA because it does everything I want a car to do.

(33,643 posts)Of course it was also the golden years of Mustangs, Firebirds, Camaros, and Chargers, so ... almost any of those would do nicely for me.
But '68 SS396 Chevelle would be REAL high on that list
Also a small-block 400 1968 Firebird.

(24,906 posts)They only made 300 of them, and it was the first year for Corvettes. I was also born in '53. I've owned two Corvettes in my life, a '57 when I was 19 and an '05 which we bought new. The retirement budget unfortunately has no room for a Corvette. I'm glad I had them when I could.

(4,688 posts)but what I have been jealous of since I was a kid is an AMC AMX with a built 390. One of the fastest 1/4 mile machines I have ever been in. It was my best friends car in high school. My dad had a body and paint shop and we painted it for him. It was slick. Metal flake blue. In the old days after one painted real metal flake. The paint gun had to be rebuilt.

(38,034 posts)It's a 2023 Camry Hybrid LE, suitable for business purposes, but still getting close to 60 mpg. Comfortable, wonderful safety features, getting better mileage than advertised, automatic cruise control with self stopping features, warning sounds and back up camera.
I actually oppose the car CULTure, but I'm a participant in it nonetheless. If it is necessary to have a car to keep the roof sealed, and the family safe, this is the best I can do.
The LE is the lowest model by the way, but I bought it because it had the best gas mileage of the Camry Hybrid models. I can't imagine that the more expensive versions can offer anything that I would value over the mileage.
My only complaint is that the promised to give an extra fob - they only gave one on purchase - and have not honored doing so.

(4,688 posts)I can't think of a single reason why someone would need to accelerate like this, ok maybe collision avoidance but for most it is to much acceleration IMO. I have to admit it was a blast to drive. Not a salesman but if you want to burn up an afternoon. Check it out.
Edit to add, It was so quiet that I believe there is risk in not having a motor sound. Maybe there was one included with the software but I did not check for this. Additionally the fact that is has software that needs to be updated is a flaw to me. This car was in the 90k range and the fact that the home office has some control is not something I would ever consider. Some will know where Hood Canal is in WA state. We drove it on a curvy road near Belfair on a beautiful sunny day during the time of the perceid meter shower. Did not drive at night but we stayed on the canal and what a show.
