The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI replaced a tool today that I've used for more than 30 years
A replacement for my old Wahl hair clipper, whose base blade was damaged falling out of the bathroom cabinet and so refused to allow the other to slide over it.
I figured it would be something battery powered, probably needing installing a camera and its app on a smart phone to see the back of my head.... as well as places out of sight that frankly I've never considered mowing (oh Boomer, right?)
But I was quite surprised to find that the company that made my old clipper was still in business (how did THAT happen?).
It has NO camera, but it does have a cord! So no toxic batteries to lose power and end up in landfills or, for that matter burst into flames in the bathroom cabinet.
The blades are EXACTLY like the one on my decades old clipper. Although it came with new ones, the old clipping guards that have stood up to decades of use fit it perfectly well!! I was fearing the new one would come in gawdy rainbow flavors, but even the new ones were a comfortingly familiar boring black.
It's wonderful to have a clipper with new sharp blades, that have all their teeth, but it also is sort of nice to not have to learn new _any_ technology.
If this one lasts like the old one, it's the last I'll ever need to buy.
