(22,153 posts)Johnson botched reconstruction so badly it laid the foundation for Jim Crow, the Klan and the next 100 years.
Lincoln would have handled reconstruction differently, and it would have been Klan members hanging from the trees instead of thousands of African Americans.
Second choice: RFK (I know hes not a president, be had he not been assassinated, he almost certainly would have beat Nixon, and the course of history would have been changed)

(11,806 posts)continuously since 1861. I think Lincoln really meant it when he said, With malice toward none, with charity for all. Had he lived, I think the post war era would have been different, and as a master politician, he may well have been able to manage the Radical Republicans.
