Beautiful new stadium downtown(ish), a large fan base, and concession prices that don't bend you over.

(2,939 posts)The Tour of Spain bicycle race in late August and September, won very unexpectedly by American domestique Sepp Kuss. He beat teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic, both multiple grand tour winners who had let him go up ahead in an earlier stage (in an effort to draw out top riders from other teams). Despite their best efforts in later stages, they werent able to make up all of the time advantage he gained on that day. (Teammates attacking their own teammate/race leader
not cool.)
Kuss has been a strong and steady teammate to the top dogs on team Jumbo Visma, helping them win something like 7 grand tours, including both grand tours earlier in 2023. Hes an awesome rider, and best of all a true gentleman. I was so happy he won this race!

(11,554 posts)A goon is a teammate that will respond to a violent or dirty play by the opposition.
Anyways, back in the day, Rob Ray use to have his game jersey set up in a way and when he would get into a fight ...boom ...his game jersey would be off and he would be topless into his fight.
One of my favorite NHL players was Miroslav Satan, pronounced shah-TAN. He still is one of my favorite players although he's retired now.
Tyler Myers stands at 6' 8" tall. This was his response to a Flyers fan who was being a creep and starting crap.
&t=34s
Also, there was a game where Tyler Myers was still in the Buffalo Sabres and he went to shoot the puck into the net and accidently got his own teammate in the face with the puck. The team that the Sabres were playing against told the ref to stop the game so that our injured player could get medical attention. I don't remember what player Myers accidently hit in the face or what team they were playing. If anyone could jog my memory that would be great.
Lot's of memorial NHL moments!

(350 posts)We attended the 1998 Rose Bowl - Washington State versus Michigan. We took two of our 3 kids. My husband and I are both WSU graduates, my kids were all born in Pullman, and I was in athletic administration at WSU for 8 years. I no longer worked for the department in 1998, but when the Cougars won the conference, we wanted to experience the Rose Bowl. The outside of the Rose Bowl is ugly, but when you walk into the stadium with 100,000 plus fans, it is amazing. The roar of the crowd, blimps and planes flying overhead, all the color and pageantry. Crimson and Gray and Blue and Gold everywhere. We did not win that day, but it was an experience I will always remember. Cougar rally at the Santa Monica pier; Rose Bowl Parade; staying at a hotel in Huntington Beach, which was full of Michigan fans as well as the Univ. of Michigan band; an impromptu football game on the beach where my sons played with a group of kids from a high school band from New Jersey; Disneyland full of Cougars. This makes me mourn the loss of the PAC-12 and all the rivalries and traditions. I'm glad I got to experience this.

Maybe not the best sports experience, but a very memorable one; I got all my subs out of the site and hoofed it eight blocks up Clark Street up to Wrigley Field. (17,757 posts)Was either in the late 60s or very early 70s. It was an FSU home basket ball game in Tully Gym. I don't remember who they were playing, but they had been exchanging lead throughout the game. With someting like three seconds left in the game, FSU was ahead by one point. The opposing team took the ball inbounds under FSUs goal, and standing under the goal, a player threw the ball the full length of the court where it scored without touching the rim. It was so amazing that even the FSU fans applauded the victors.

(17,757 posts)Where I was sitting, I could have reached out a leg and tripped a player. It was really that close. Those were the days when FSU was an educational facility that also played sports. Now they are a football university who also teaches. If you don't believe it, ask the boosters. As a senior in H.S. I worked at Burger King, after the home games, the team would come there to eat whoppers. That ship has really sailed, they now have private dining rooms with meals prepared by chefs.

(55,929 posts)we took the 61C bus that dropped us off in front of the stadium. The funny thing is they tore down the stadium with the brick ivy covered outfield wall the Maz hit the winning homer over to beat the Yankees in 1960, built a mega stadium Three Rivers. Imploded that and now we have a staduim like Forbes. Thanks Mr. Bill for bringing those memories back to me. Like Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays was an icon.
