I collected my inheritance this afternoon.

My father recently died. My mother wanted shed of his two little Shih Tzus. So, we brought them home today.

Our dogs seem to have accepted them into the pack and they are loving the attention they have missed during Dad's decline.

They're sweet little dogs and will have a comfortable life. We will have two more members to an already too large collection of cats and dogs.

My father loved them. He adopted them too late in life but they gave him much joy.

They have earned a decent retirement.

give yourself the credit.

Look around at the assholes who seem to be increasing in number, and understand that you are one of the loving good guys.

It's not a small deed at all in an increasingly nasty world.

It's been too long since they have had human attention. Dad had a long decline and Mom has no use for dogs.

The wee beastie is due a petting.

The little doggies did so much for your father in his final years.
They do deserve a good retirement and sounds like they are getting it!
I wonder if they are like my little Maltese, who is my constant companion.

Pets get overlooked and abandoned when their center of existence dissappear.

Too have so much empathy to take in one more to an already large
pack. Hats off to you and your significant other.

Caring for them if he outlives them is on the top of my list. Going back to the shelter would just be plain cruel.

I am sorry for your loss of your father, of course. You have done such a wonderful thing to give his dogs homes, I can't even express this adequately. The little ones don't know what has happened, this must all be puzzling to them and a bit scary. You have earned some major karma for what you have done.

and even people who are nearby. We adopted a cat once, and the first night he curled up to my daughter's painful scoliosis back. He also spent a lot of time entertaining her, just to make her laugh. We were very sad to lose him.

and i'm so glad you took those little dogs.

now i'm wondering how old they are, and what other breed of dogs you have.

and if you're in a cold area, (with the wind chills below zero), keep an eye on them when they go outside. i've had little dogs since i was 15 and they'll go out in the snow and freeze up, holding up a paw. i remember running out to rescue them numerous times. that was when i had a big fenced in yard. now i'm in a condo so i'm out with my little one on a leash and i can usually convince her to go back to the door to go in.

The new dogs have made it clear they are inside dogs. They will not walk out on their own and have to be carried. They then quickly do their business and bark to come in.

And I can identify, when my uncle died, I adopted his two cats after his unpleasant second wife wanted to drop them off at some shelter. So my cousin traveled from her home in Connecticut to my uncle's in New Jersey, picked up the two kitties, and brought them to me in New York. She already had three cats and they got on fine with my two dogs. We also come from a family of animal lovers.
