The song is about a man who is shocked to discover that his high school crush appeared in a centerfold spread for an unspecified men's magazine.[5] The song's narrator is torn between conflicting feelings: his disappointment due to her loss of innocence, and his lust until the end of the song.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centerfold

Here's a sample of the misogynist lyrics.

She was pure like snowflakes
No one could ever stain

The memory of my angel
Could never cause me pain

Years go by I'm lookin' through a girly magazine
And there's my homeroom angel on the pages in-between

My blood runs cold
My memory has just been sold

My angel is the centerfold
Angel is the centerfold.

So what if she's an exhibitionist? Sex work is sex work. She is not "stained." Perhaps you should look into yourself about your own feelings.

A lot of people, particularly men, don't see misogyny even when it slaps them in the face. They too, are a product of the patriarchal system.

Answer: In summary, while “Centerfold” doesn’t explicitly endorse misogyny, it does depict a situation where a woman’s image is commodified. Interpretations may vary, but it’s essential to consider the context and intent behind the song.

He would wax euphoric about how great it was, how it was the quintessential expression of love and devotion between two people who had pledged themselves to each other for life.

This went on, day after day, every time it played — blah, blah, blah. Finally, one of the staff had enough. He waited until the guy was in mid rant, looked him in the eye, and said “They’re not married, Jim,” and walked away.

As President Donald Trump's election proved, it doesn't take much to get elected anymore. In the '90s, the bar was higher: politicians were at least forced to dance the Macarena.

You've probably seen gifs from the infamous '96 Democratic National Convention, where Hillary Clinton was made to dance to the song. Friends, I'm pleased to report that the full video is incredible, and the trend runs so much deeper.

I love the Beatles, I think they are the best band ever, nobody else is even close, but I can't stand that song. It is SO monotonous, all the na-na-nas keep going on and on for way too long, and it drives me nuts. Even before the monotony starts, that song is merely okay, but then when the na-na-nas start, they'd have to send for the guys in the white coats and straitjacket to come get me if I had to listen to it. I listen often to the Beatles channel on Sirius satellite radio, but when that song comes on, I change the channel. What I just don't understand is that Hey Jude is one of the most popular Beatles songs. Every year when the Beatles channel does its fan poll, Hey Jude is always one of the top five. I just don't get it.

292. Yes, Chicago Really Has an East Side
Thu Feb 29, 2024, 06:41 PM
Feb 29
The neighborhood is bounded by the Calumet River on the north and west, Lake Michigan on the east and Egger’s Grove on the south.

https://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/yes-chicago-really-has-an-east-side/

Houses sit under the Chicago Skyway toll road on South Avenue M Tuesday, March 9, 2021, in the East Side neighborhood of Chicago.

I’m going to settle an old Chicago debate, one that usually begins when someone quotes the first line of the song “The Night Chicago Died,” by Paper Lace: “My daddy was a cop on the east side of Chicago.”

It came up again on Reddit, a year ago, when a Redditor wrote, “TIL the song ‘The Night Chicago Died’ by Paper Lace references an east side of Chicago, which does not exist. There are North, South, and West Downtown Chicago, but the east is occupied by Lake Michigan. Songwriters Peter Callander and Mitch Murray had never been to Chicago.”

Callander and Murray, who hail from Nottingham, England, may have known as much about Chicago’s geography as Steve Perry did about Detroit’s, but they weren’t wrong. Chicago does, in fact, have an East Side. It’s one of our 77 community areas. Located in the far southeastern corner of the city, the East Side is bounded by the Calumet River on the north and west, Lake Michigan on the east and Egger’s Grove on the south. That Redditor may not have heard of the East Side because it’s one of Chicago’s most remote neighborhoods: the ‘L’ doesn’t go to the East Side, the Skyway carries cars hundreds of feet overhead, and driving there requires crossing a lift bridge. (When the Bluesmobile jumped the 95th Street Bridge, it took off from South Chicago and landed on the East Side.)

East Side native Robert Stanley, a former Wisconsin Steel worker, began his self-published memoir Once Upon a Time in South Chicago with a photo of a half-raised bridge and the legend, “Oh shit! The bridge is up. (Quote from) anyone that ever went to the (East Side).”

Red Army Choir wiped out in tragic Black Sea plane crash
By
Harold C. Hutchison
Feb 5, 2020 7:03 PM PST
The Christmas Day crash of a Tupelov Tu-154 off the coast of Sochi, a Black Sea resort town in Russia, killed all 92 people on board. Among the dead are 60 members of the Red Army Choir.

The Red Army Choir had a viral moment when they sang backup to a cover of "Sweet Home Alabama" done by the Leningrad Cowboys. One Youtube video is below:
The choir members killed were part of the Alexandrov Ensemble, according to a CNN report. The choir was slated to perform for Russian military personnel at the Khmeimim air base in Syria.

According to the choir's iTunes page, the group took first place at the Paris International Exposition in 1937, and features a male chorus, with dancers and an orchestra.

The impact of this crash on Russia could be compared to the Feb. 3, 1959, plane crash that killed rock-and-roll artists Buddy Holly and Richie Valens, or the loss of band leader Glenn Miller in unexplained circumstances while en route to Europe on Dec, 15, 1944.

The last Leningrad Cowboys concert was on July 31, 2015 at Festplatz Seebronn in Rottenburg, Germany

My picks:

"Wives and Lovers" -Jack Jones "Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you.. I'm warning you"
The lyrics are pretty horrifying.. plus the fact it was a hit

"I Beg Your Pardon I Never Promised you a Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson --the worst and corniest set of lyrics ever..

"Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro - way too much airplay

"That's The Way I Like It" - K.C. and the Sunshine Band - over kill

P.S. Debbie Boone supposedly sang "You Light Up My Life" to Jesus-

Years ago The Captain and Tennille were invited to entertain at one of Reagan's White House receptions honoring Queen Elizabeth. They did Muskrat Love and a there was a British man doing commentary for whatever channel he was with and he was aghast that they would play such a song in front of The Queen. It was so funny at the time that I never forgot it.

Mike Douglas had some interesting co-hosts and guests. I think I've seen bits of the John and Yoko shows. I remember when he had Moe Howard on from The Three Stooges. I didn't recognize him until he combed his hair forward.

I think Phil Donahue did his show out of Cleveland before he went to Chicago and then later New York. Must be something about Cleveland. It could have been Cincinnati.

I also used to watch The Merv Griffin show in the afternoon. Like Mike Douglas, he liked to sing a song at the opening of his show. He used to joke around with his Bass Player Ray Brown? and his Trumpet player Jack Sheldon who sang the "I'm just a Bill" song from Schoolhouse Rock. I liked that kidding around the best.
