Curious about souvenirs

If you get a souvenir for yourself, how long do you keep it?

If you get a souvenir from someone else, how long do you keep it?

When we were buying at sales and auctions, we saw a lot of souvenirs, and sometimes they are collectible. I saw enough that I stopped getting souvenirs for my friends and relatives, unless they wanted something, or if it was edible.

Happy Saturday!

1. Whether for myself or others, I would buy only if made in the country (or state) I'm visiting.

Always double check to make sure that there's no male anatomy parts underneath animal figurine souvenirs.

I'm totally serious, Marthe48.

with others, it has to be something they will want. Example: my sister's husband collected shot glasses.
We added to his collection often. Mr YD took a trip to Alaska with his sister and got a bunch of really cool ones for him. He really liked them.

don't get me wrong some are cool, but between a well-traveled family and the sick need I have to hang on to it all...(and nevermind the shit I get for myself) it can get overwhelming.

coolest of the cleaning project yesterday? some old wooden carvings from Polynesia collected by a great-aunt who was a WAC in the 40s.

I'd see souvenirs at yard sales and a lot of them didn't look they'd been cherished for long, or at all. I added a lot of rock samples and seashells to our collection over the years. Instead of friends and family bringing me a mug, I ask them to bring me rocks they find on the ground where they go. My daughter and her husband went to New Zealand. She brought me 4 rocks from different places they visited and told me about each one when she brought them to me, also showed me a picture of the place That was nice.

Glad to know there are people who do love their souvenirs.

old, local, hand-made crafts are some of my favorites. I mean, I have old ruined Navajo rug/saddle blankets that are probably worth a fortune, even in bad condition, but they were bought for actual saddle blankets and well used.

I've bought souvenirs from sales. Some of them are older. I love how even the smallest towns offered keepsakes. And how some of the things have no connection to the place named on the object. lol I have a porcelain plate with a realistic lion on it, and it is a souvenir of Oakland, Maryland. Maybe they had a Lions' Club.
