(10,286 posts)Because I use it so rarely that it goes bad before I'm done with the bottle.
But I leave my butter out to get nice and soft. I go thru butter so quickly that it doesn't have time to go bad.
nocoincidences
(2,239 posts)But I must also admit that a little rancid taste doesn't bother me a bit.
Farmer-Rick
(10,286 posts)A stick of butter for me may last about 2 days (I cook a lot). That's not long enough for it to go rancid in 70 degrees F.
But if you like it that way, to each their own.

(15,160 posts)Exceptions are things like vinegar, peanut butter, oils, stuff that obviously won't go bad.
Yeah, ketchup has more preservatives than a twinkie, but it still goes in the fridge because it has stuff in it that would normally spoil.

(21,344 posts)I have a job where I move seniors from their homes to senior communities or assisted living and we go in after we move them and clear out their residences. I have seen some gross open bottlers of ketchup and other things ! And dont get me started on the smell when I have to clean out a recyclable bottle to recycle! UGH🤮🤢

(22,931 posts)Food safety experts say that while ketchup is shelf-stable, it generally tastes better when kept cold. I'm shocked there's a controversy, said Martin Bucknavage, a food safety specialist at Penn State University. If you want to maximize the quality of your ketchup, you keep it in the fridge.

(354 posts)Someone told me to store it on the counter so I did and it molded
dai13sy
(354 posts)Both on their labels and their websites and always after opening. If there is dairy or oil in any of those products they will turn rancid and will mold and make you sick. I don't like taking chances with my food.

(8,839 posts)I never leave it out. Most non organic ketchups contain lots of corn syrup - not really healthy.
Many people never even check ingredients. You can buy ice cream with 3 or 4 ingredients or with over 20 ingredients. Rarely do people check. Check your ketchup ingredients before buying it. Avoid corn syrup!!

so any butter left out would be a puddle.
In Hawaii the ambient temp is more comfortable as long as the trade-winds are blowing, but the ambient temp is still warm enough to make butter very soft to melted.
Since its subtropical there is also the problem of bugs, so as long as I lived there nearly every food item got stashed in the hermetically sealed refrigerator. Every woman I knew was devoted to Tupperware for dry goods like rice and flour.
