The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe farmhouse is getting a new roof today.
I am inside listening to the flurry of activity. I am hearing the creaking and scraping. Things falling and hitting everywhere is making me cringe in fear.
I'm feeling like I wish I had made plans to be somewhere else.
It's scary.
But then I hear the radio. Mariachi music! The workers are singing!
So, now I know these guys mean business and that makes me smile through the anxiety.
It's probably going to be over sooner than I think and I'll probably have the best roof on the road when they're done.

(43,289 posts)The crew chief had been in the Russian Navy. They spoke fair English but communicated in Russian.
When they needed to coordinate an install, there would be much discussion. Then, "Da?" "Da." "Muszhgee!! muszhgee!!!" meaning smash it, or whack it, and then lots of hammering. They were acrobats, throwing tools across or up the roof to be grabbed on the fly.
