Ryobi batteries?

I got a Ryobi electric mower a few years back. Then I bought a Ryobi electric trimmer with the same size battery, so I'd have a backup battery to use with the mower. (It was cheaper to buy the trimmer w/ battery than the battery alone. Go figure.) When the lawn mower's original battery died (i.e. stopped charging) after 3-4 yrs, I was back down to the one battery. Now this 2nd battery, a little more than a year old, has died (i.e. stopped charging). I don't want to have to buy yet another yard machine to get a third battery! So, my question to any fine folk is: Are there any good options for Ryobi batteries that a) live longer, and 2) don't cost an arm and a leg?

1. There is a trick to recharge "dead" batteries. Several YouTube videos show simple steps to revive these batteries.

2. Is that where you plug it in for a couple seconds, then unplug before the red/green flashing starts?

I tried that for 30 minutes with the first dead battery. No go. Is there another simple set of steps out there? That's really the only one I remember finding, aside from making sure that the contacts are clean.

in 2020 and it's still working. The one I got is no longer available, but amazon has a number of options.

... that you look for third party batteries that are Ryobi compatible. They're cheaper if you can get one.
