(129,291 posts)I like ham sandwiches, too, but while I had my cat Milo (RIP) I rarely ate them because he would snatch them off my plate or right out of my hands. He loved ham! I miss that cat so much, but now at least I can eat ham sandwiches in peace.

(6,340 posts)it's my own recipe...most places heat up the veggies..
This way they really shine against the salty meat.
Let's see what did I leave out?
The sub is toasted in the oven with garlic butter and the provolone.
on top and bottom, (open-faced) the cheese is fully melted on this sandwich.
Once you've finished sauteeing the Pastrami, spread it out the sub's length
and spread a thin layer of HOT MUSTARD (We use Colmans) just assemble
by ladleing the diced veggies on top of the Pastrami.
This sub can be made astonishingly quickly by dividing oven/burner and prep
work.
I'll write this up sometime, been fixing this way since the 80s

(75,889 posts)Normally Polish style, but I've used smoked too.
Except for a Reuben, I'd rather have a ham sandwich than any other type. (Not counting BLTs, but the cooking & toasting puts it a different category for me.)
That said, I've made grilled ham & cheese and requires cooking too.
Hmmm. I'm confusing myself.

(1,671 posts)It Doesnt Taste Like Chicken is a great place for beginners to experiment. Shes got a ham thats to die for, which I alter by baking with pineapple slices, juice, maple syrup, and cloves.A turkey or ham deli loaf will give me a big dinner and a weeks worth of lunches for very little money and effort.

(11,806 posts)One of my jobs when I got there after school was to deal with the cold cuts section. Make sure it was stocked, pre slice bologna, etc. I had all I wanted.
Also there was a guy who liked to come in, stand in front of the case and ask loudly, Whats new in assholes and eye balls?

(26,041 posts)The roast beef was a dine out item. At home it was tuna salad.
Then BLT or Turkey double decker BLTs as a young adult.
Later mid 30's Boca burgers, or some other vegetarian types.
And through the decades cheddar, or swiss grilled cheese!
Even later a very nice store made sliced turkey breast with a honey and herbed glaze. I'd get a long roll with swiss, or provelone, mayo, garlic powder , and tomatoes if I have. Maybe lettuce, too
I'm in a ALP now, but should go to that store and get that turkey and cheese etc. They also have a roast beef sandwich I'd get. I can always skip their prepared meals here and there.
Luckily their meals are usually good!

(912 posts)Today I had roasted turkey and salami on French bread. Last time I made a sandwich, it was Cajun turkey, pepperoni and Polish ham (also on French). More than one kind of lunchmeat makes for a more interesting sandwich.
My favorite would have to be roast beef and turkey, very thinly sliced, sharp cheddar cheese, on whatever bread is extremely fresh (pumpernickel preferred, if I had options). Ideally, lettuce and tomato as well. And blue cheese dressing! Love blue cheese dressing on a beef sandwich.
Bread is more important than meat to me. Put bologna on fresh bread and I'll choose it over beef on stale bread any day. The best start to a perfect sandwich is outstanding bread.

French bread too.

(374 posts)... the kind where the cheese oozes out on the pan and crusts (up). ✨ Although, I do love a good mix: club with bacon, Or a Italian dressing soaked, hoagie! (Souped up condiments are also nice. ~ i.e.sriracha mayo, garlic aioli, barbeque/ horseradish, etc.). Also, on pumpernickel or marble rye..😊

(461 posts)use liquid smoke, but actually use a real smokehouse. Also have their own supplier of pork. You can go online and buy their meats - I can buy it locally. Not the cheapest but your taste buds will think it's worth every penny! And no, they aren't paying me for the ad!
