so I basically never ate anything at their place that should have had mayo in it.

Since they were the part of the family that sorta' struggled economically, I'd made a stupid assumption that they couldn't afford real mayo and wondered why we didn't include real mayo in any food offerings we brought when we visited. Never occurred to me that people would eat MW by choice. I hope I've managed to not make so many stupid assumptions but not really sure I have.

MW uses soybean oil.
It has a higher iodine value than most other food oils, except for sunflower, which is about the same.
It's also quite high in monounsaturated fats, which is slso healthier.
So, less oil & a somewhat healthier variant.

My brothers use MW as our Mom did; my sister won't touch any version of it
So when I make tuna salad when she is here, I mash avocado & mix it with the tuna. Surprisingly avocado is a good binder for tuna, celery, onion & hard boiled eggs.

However for egg salad only, the greenish yellow color is kinda off putting the first time.

And for your next million dollar burger? Mix a good dollop of Hellmann’s with a generous dose of VERY coarse cracked pepper and a lot of finely minced red onion. It needs to be a thick mixture and the pepper should be very visible. Melt Habanero Cheddar cheese slices (……we get this from our grocery deli sliced on a 4 so pretty thick…..) on your well salted medium rare to rare grilled burgers, slather both sides of each grilled bun with a dose of the Mayo/Pepper/Red Onion, assemble the burgers and serve. That’s it!

Total crowd pleaser!! Even friends who “shy away” from anything hot , or friends who don’t like mayo, ask us to make these again and again. And everyone always wants the “recipe”, although there really isn’t one. Just mix it up the way I described to your preference and you are good to go!

So yes - - MAYO for the win!!! LOL

Miracle Whip is made from water, soybean oil, high-fructose corn syrup, vinegar, modified corn starch, eggs, salt, natural flavor, mustard flour, potassium sorbate, spice, and dried garlic.

I'm thinking what I "bolded" is the combination I don't like about it. A slightly sweet tang.

Not at the same time though.🤣 Some things seem to need that tangy zip, others need the blandness of mayo.
But I will often use more than one type of mustard at a time. I make cheese sandwiches using a cheddar with mustard seeds in it, then I put yellow mustard on one bread slice and brown or Dijon on the other.
