The teen will probably find something to throw on five minutes before he goes out ... to do whatever. That's still undecided as well.

2. A vampire (girl) and Viking (boy)

My little vampire really likes the eye makeup, red lipstick and nail polish best.

My son makes a great Viking - he's 12 and 5'9" - the little kids are "scared" of him (scared and giggling at the same time).

Last year he was Chewbacca, and adults in the neighborhood were taking photos of him with the little people.

I hope your little ninja has fun!

4. My fifteen year old is doing some kind of Rainbow Dash Zombie.

She's one of the My Little Pony fans but she wanted a twist on it. We are talking rainbows and lots of fake blood effects painted on. Pretty much every year her costumes have been home made or designed from old clothes. I think we've only had one year that she wore a costume that was purchased as a complete thing. My personal favorite was the year that I made her a butterfly costume out of black sweats and old bits of fabric I had left over from other projects. In part, her wings were made from leftover fabric that went into the bridesmaid dresses they wore for our wedding. On a three year old is was adorable.

We've done the fairy princess--complete with pink dress made from a very heavy knit fabric that doubled as a coat, a couple of different riffs on witches, vampires and gypsies, little Goth girl, and a black cat. We've done some pretty cool make-up effects, and there have been a couple of years that we've spent a fair amount of time getting that makeup on her. The year she went as a vampire hunter she had a huge floppy rubber stake and even carried a spray bottle of garlic juice that I may never be forgiven for.

What has been cool about it has been the planning that went into each costume, and the fact that, to her anyhow, costumes were a creative thing rather than just something you went out and purchased. They represented our creativity and our own sense of Halloween. I'm hoping that attitude holds on for her lifetime and that it will be something she does with her own kids someday.

5. One of my adopted grandbabies, who is 16 months old

is going as a little cop. He has the CUTEST little set of blues.

His mom will be his prisoner.

We considered the other way around: Mom cop and baby prisoner, but it's more realistic with mom wrapped around his adorable little finger.

Hell, there are a dozen of us who should dress up as that little bit's "prisoners" since he holds all of our hearts captive! He's the most beautiful baby in the world ( but I do tell him often not to tell any of the other babies )
