Okay, if Star Wars 7 is going to happen, here's how to do it RIGHT:

Put George Lucas in a room with a random sampling of six Star Wars fans.

Let Lucas speak for a few hours in detail about what he would do with a new Star Wars film, interrupting him only to ask him to clarify this or that detail.

Let the fans remain silent and still, except to press the button in their hands when any of them hears something they don't like -- the button triggers an electroshock device hooked up to Lucas's testicles.

Repeat the session if necessary.

The result, I'm prepared to wager, will be an excellent Star Wars film.

3. The best would be for George to step away from the process

and hire the right director (and screenwriter) for the job. I don't know who that might be, but repeat what he did for the Empire Strikes Back.

was written by Leigh Brackett (who passed away in 1978) and Lawrence Kasden, who is still writing and directing, and who has three Oscar nominations for writing (The Big Chill (1984), The Accidental Tourist (1988), and Grand Canyon (1991)). The Empire Strikes Back was his first screenplay.

For me, the proof that he would be perfect to write the rest of the Star Wars films is the list of his other screenplays. Imagine a Stars Wars film, flavored by the author of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Continental Divide, and Silverado.

5. Lucas is consulting only. Not directing producing or writing..

Disney has the people to do this right. They give the film to John Lassiter or Joss Whedon and it could be amazing..

As a SW fan for over 30 years I was actually happy to hear about this. Lucas was pretty much spent creatively and passing it on was the best thing he could have done.

Plus if the right people take the reigns and follow the books, we could see the Yuzzahn Vong war on the big screen. That would make for a Star Wars for the 21st century.

6. If they have to have him, make it be like Gene Roddenbery for every Trek movie after TMP.

He can review the script and give comments, but absolutely no one is under any obligation to do anything he says.

if he wanted it to continue.. HE turned the Clone Wars over to Dave Filoni and that turned out great. There are a number of people working under the Disney banner who grew up with Star Wars and could take it to a new level.

All we can do is wait and see.

Although I certainly agree Lucas should spend some time having shocks applied to his testicles...
