The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI think Magic Hat is quickly becoming my favorite brewery.
I've had #9 and Hex and their Black Lager and Vanilla Porter and this crazy wheat IPA and everything has been so different yet all excellent. I look forward to trying verything else they make.

See if they sell it near you. If not, move.
PS: Don't throw out the bottle caps - they each have some odd saying printed on the inside. I love odd.

(9,982 posts)(The owners of Otter Creek, I beleive...) tell me that Genesee bought out Magic Hat, and will be moving most production to NY. So you may see more Magic Hat around soon.
Try some Otter Creek, while you're at it - or maybe some Trout River. (Brian the bottler says hello..)

(12,132 posts)Genesee and Otter Creek but I'm not sure I've had any of their beers. Never heard of Trout River...But I have a good local store that has a pretty large craft/micro/import section and they let you create your own six-pack so I will look for Otter and Trout.
I have to say it makes me nervous though...usually when the small great place gets bought by the big corp it makes things worse instead of better...unless they JUST improve distribution and leave the brewing alone.
And hello to Brian. Don't know what he bottles but I guarantee I'm a fan of it! lol

(9,982 posts)Brian is an ex-ski bum who used to host us at the Burke Mountain campground - he literally runs the bottling machine at Trout River.

Chris and Dennis Riley are my friends at Otter Creek. Most of my racing friends around Burlington, VT are beer geeks - it's microbrew heaven, by the looks........

(12,132 posts)on some good stuff living so far south. Otter Creek has some great looking stuff on their site - I LOVE the idea of a black IPA....I will definitely try to find it somewhere (or heck, order some from up there if that's possible).
Oooooooooooooooooooooh lordy, Trout River has a chocolate oatmeal stout! Yessir, I gotta make myself familiar with these brewers.
Thanks for the recommendations!

(30,884 posts)I went on a microbrew tour of VT about fifteen years ago. Otter Creek was the best of the lot. Magic Hat had some nice brews, as did Long Trail and Catamount.

(12,132 posts)It had most of the ones in the OP in it but not the Hex...but I had the Hex a few weeks ago and now I'm sad that's only a fall thing apparently...It's their version of an Oktoberfest...
