(113,950 posts)But pitting them against the one guitarist who Rolling Stone, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Jimmy Page and many many others acknowledged as the Best Guitarist of all time is probably unfair.
But, yes, a very good cover. Now, can they do their OWN music? Sorry, but my residual cynicism about most of today's music is very strong, but these guys are quite talented compared to their contemporaries, so I will be interested to see. At least they are performing their own instruments and not bringing in too many digital effects. Perhaps a group of guys born outside their time. And thankfully, a group not obsessed with RAP genre and nothing else. Whether R&B, Rock, Soul, Funk, Disco, Pop, Country, Jazz--I need to hear some melody!

(18,567 posts)The music, though, is pretty dang good, and the arrangement rocks.
Now, whether they can do original tunes is an open question, but let's not forget that Jimi was doing a cover. The ability to write and perform original music is only one of many qualifications for musical excellence. You remember they used to criticise Streisand because she didn't do her own stuff. Many great performers and bands were interpreting some writer's ideas -- it's always been a standard part of the music business, the idea of groups doing it all is something that came into vogue after the Beatles (and some other groups) convinced everyone that was the standard.
Jimi never thought he was the greatest, although the supposed quote of his that one should ask Rory Gallagher how it feels to be the greatest is apocryphal. I tend not to play rating games: I'm perfectly happy to have both Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher in my sonic universe, and am prepared to show neither the door.

(25,409 posts)I hear new music every day that is just amazing. It is just not promoted and popularized.
And with YouTube, you can hear music from all around the world at the push of a couple of buttons.
