The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumshow often do you find yourself wanting to ask a poster
"how old are you?"
or is it just me

(20,491 posts)sometimes i will ask, phrasing it as an accusation:
"i bet you're some kinda 25 yr old pup, right? you don't know nothin'"
or
"you're probably some kinda 80 yr old 'get off my lawn' codger, right? you done forgot what it's like."
me, i'm the perfect age, exactly between puphood and codgerhood.

(11,360 posts)People will post about something local, and when you check their profile, there's nothing there. You're left guessing what town (or even state) they might be talking about.
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)as long as they aren't on my lawn I don't care where they live.

(4,056 posts)As a liberated (and old) woman, I'm not gonna lie about my age or pretend I'm some nubile 40 year old or anything! Lucky for me, the kids like me and I have a lot of twentysomethings in my life to keep me current, so I may sound younger sometimes. But then, I mention that I lived through Kennedy's assassination and was a teenager during Watergate, so the cat's out of the bag.
Now you don't have to wonder or ask me, at least!
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)sometimes the wonderment goes hand in hand with a low post count
near as I can remember your posts have always seemed sensible enough that age was never a thought.

(4,056 posts)I wish I could say that wisdom has come with aging, but nope. Still waiting.

(18,219 posts)If you are an "old" lady, then so am I at one year older than you. And I am not ready to accept that.....yet.
pink-o
(4,056 posts)I just throw in the adjective because 57 is supposed to be my mother's age--and she was always old.
Actually, I'll settle for middle-aged. We could live to 120--it could happen, really!!
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)and this living longer makes me wish that the stages of life that we go through could be stretched out in accordance.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)I do laugh when I think about how this is not exactly "middle" age anymore. But unless I look in the mirror, I feel like I am still 40. I will concede to being old when I need a walker.
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)not yet by a long shot

(41,960 posts)And I agree that being with poeple of all ages is a delight. Some days I feel old as dirt and some I know I'm hopelessly stuck at 13, and on the really good ones I feel the wonder of a five year old.

But since I don't know anyone who's 116 years old, I'm guessing it's time for a change.

(457 posts)I'm tired of people accusing each other of being children over a disagreement or the way they express themselves.
It's a deplorable thing to do, and has no real bearing other than another stupid tactic to try to win an argument.
If I had a dollar for every time I saw a post asking that question, I'd be a rich man.
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)I dont think I have ever seen it here.
I agree it is lame but, sometimes I do wonder what accomplishments or life experiences a poster has had to say some of the things they say and the expectations they seem to have.
