concerts, parks, etc. Fancy hotels have no appeal to me and while spending a few days in a cabin in the woods sounds nice, I'd get board pretty quick.

11. I DO live

In a little cottage in the mountains. (With my lab) Paid off. Retired. This is vacation daily. As Ritzy as I ever will need. Fresh ground coffee every AM. Very quite. (Except for mocking birds on crack) and extremely minimal person contact. Quit different from life on a Destroyer, all male crew. Currently at war with crows destroying my yard, but Paradise to me. Blue bridge Parkway a short bushwhacking away. Mountains to Sea a bushwhacking climb above the BRP, and endless no trail forests all around.
Plus too poor to travel, or stay in Ritzy Hotels, the effects of State Faculty career. But, most of that was in the Forest.
I did however win a scholarship 4 years ago to tour Northern California Forests and we stayed in the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. I could get use to living in that economic lifestyle if I had the cash.
That was damn nice. Amazing meals and lots of great wine. (All paid for with the award)

Provided it was within walking distance of a public library. Ritzy hotel, room service, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and some good books, and I'm all set.

I won't even pretend that I'd rather be out in the cold and the rain, doing "macho man" stuff. I did all that as a tanker in the Army. I was good at it. But it's a young person's game. Now, I just want creature comforts to enjoy.

Is the mountain cabin on blue ribbon trout or steelhead waters and comes with a Michelin quality chef, maid and guide service? If not, I’ll have to go with the St Regis Punta di Mita, a five star hotel with a world class surf spot in walking distance.

I’m paying for either of these with my tariff refund. Or Mabye my J6 slush fund payout. I deserve that because of how distressing revelations about the event, Trumps complicity, and my worries about how dangerous the pardoned rioters are to me, my family, and the whole country are.

15. Cozy, comfy cabin. Have already done that a few times and enjoyed it.

In a state park, with hiking trails, a small beach on a small lake, guided nature tours for anyone interested.

Cooked outdoors, chatted and played cards by oil lamp in the evening (no electricity and no cell phones back then). Met other campers. Chased raccoons away from our food while cooking it. Little pests tried to steal it off of the cooking fire.

Lately, I've been thinking how fabulous it would be to visit Mackinac Island and stay in the ritzy, historic and infamously haunted Grand Hotel near the lake!

that right now is peak tourist season and one side of the island is usually elbow to elbow people. But the hotel is beautiful and the other side you can rent a bike and see amazing scenery. I haven't stayed at the hotel but I dined there. Oh, and if she's never seen it, watch the movie "Somewhere in Time."

I'd get bored easily in a hotel or a cabin. I stayed in the Sheraton Hotel in Zagreb, Croatia for three months and frankly, I wasn't impressed with it. I mean, the room was nice, good restaurant, etc.. but most hotels are boring. I liked walking through the city and seeing the sights. I like smaller hotels because basically it's there for sleep and bathing. I stayed in a small hotel in England, for a couple of nights, that was over 200 years old. The ground floor was level but the second and third hallway was warped (wavy) but the rooms were level. It was more comfortable than larger, more expensive hotels.

92. One of my jobs involved being a "road warrior," flights-hotels-flight-hotels-flight-hotels...I stayed in some very...

...fancy, high end hotels, like for instance, for just one example...The Hotel Regina sur le Place Jeanne D'Arc, a short walk from the Louvre.

None of that struck me with as much joy and happiness as a small cabin in Big Sur in a grove of coastal redwoods with the girlfriend who would eventually become my wife. That night in that cabin - we stumbled onto it - was, up to that point, the best night of my life. Decades later I still have tremendous joy to think of that night, the first of many "best days of my life," she brought to me.

When you're a road warrior, after a time, all hotels suck if you're alone without your lover. If you are with your lover, the hotel doesn't matter.
