Question: speakers/ optical audio/toslink

I have an Apple TV and wish to improve sound as the TV audio is mediocre. I play a lot of music through my computer. Apple TV has an optical audio out

Does anyone have recommendations for a pair of decent speakers/ monitors less than 200 bucs. I don't need anything fancy like for mastering musical recordings Just better quality Audio than what comes out of the TV

I know you can get cheaper ones. I have a lg with a blu ray player. It was awesome when it worked That was a little pricier. The power supply took a crap on that one--(still mad about that because it was just out of warranty). It had the digital optical input which I hooked in my crappy cable set top box into because the sound is set way too low on that thing when it feeds sound to the TV through HDMI.

It also had an ipod doc which my daughter used every day and it had some other capabilities with pandora and netflix which we used often.

I do hear the sound bars are great. I am looking at getting a cheaper model this time. I don't really need a blu ray but I do enjoy the internet capability wired or wireless. I believe they are called surround sound in a box. Most come with a powered sub wolfer. I hid mine behind the tv, then I had the 5:1 so I have the 4 small speakers and the center channel. I'm telling you its absolutely fabulous for watching movies, let alone watching you tube videos on the tv.

Sounds to me like you don't need a super fancy one, so I would look either the cheaper models or check out the sound bar.
