WilmywoodNCparalegal's career update

A while ago, I posted about my interview experience with a company that sells shoes and other items online, Z*, and how it is a company that has a very interesting culture. Unfortunately, while they recognized I had more than enough experience for the job they were seeking to fill, not enough people in the team felt they had a cultural click with me.

I then thought, after my husband's nagging, to do a video of reasons why they should re-consider (Z* accepts and encourages video submissions).

I decided against it.

Anyway, today I will have a first phone interview at another huge company located in Seattle, WA, which sells books online and sounds AMAZ-ing ... tee hee

As luck would have it, I'm coughing my brains out and I sound like I'm a zombie.

If you have any insights into the interview process at this particular company, let me know (it's a non-IT position).

Wish me luck.

In California, the company in question is considered to be the Evil Empire, because they refuse to collect state sales tax, then when we tried to make them do so, they severed ties with all of their California affiliates (because that's a "physical presence" within the state) and even threatened to sponsor a ballot initiative permanently exempting them from doing so unless they got their way.

Did I mention we're $26 billion in the hole and getting deeper by the minute?

At least once a year, there's a news story about how they hire temp workers to work in their warehouse as "pickers" over the holiday season and they pay them per-diem rates below minimum wage and most of those workers are migrants that end up living in campers in the parking lot for the six weeks of the holiday season.

Based on that, I'm going to assume their corporate culture is probably "I got mine, f*ck you" conservative.

but yes, I have heard about the workers who got sick from heat exhaustion at its fulfillment centers and about the RVers who move from place to place during holiday time.

But it would be an excellent move career wise, back to my area of expertise, in a more senior role and there's no doubt I'd find it very fulfilling.

Phone interview went great - as far as I can tell - and hopefully I'll hear something positive next week.
