(21,925 posts)I used to play this H. Silver tune with my friends back in the early 70s when I was young and able to get steady jazz gigs. Now, the many clubs are largely gone but the wonderful memories remain. It's great to know there are other jazz aficionados around here.

(4,076 posts)I learned "Song for my Father" in a jazz improv class. I can sort of play it on the piano. The harmony is a little weird, no leading tone and all that.
It's funny how jazz has become more respectable as its popularity has declined. Once upon a time it was heard mostly in clubs. Nowadays there are more concerts, and you can study jazz at school. Jazz is like classical music in this respect.
