What a great way to start the New Year!
After the election, my ignore count actually DROPPED, and I was starting to worry. It's good to be back on track.
I'm shooting for 20+ by the end of 2013. I'm debating whether I want to get my first jury hide.

Stay out of Meta -- no good can come from there.
...and stop making supportive posts about cute puppies.

(8,492 posts)...from 9 to 7 about 2 months ago.
Last week it went from 7 to 9. I dared to not jump on the proper bandwagon. I know who one of them is, got a pretty good idea of the other, as well.

(10,000 posts)Defending children!! Seriously??
When you try bandwagon jumping, get a good running start. Try to get good lift from your right leg, and good upward arm motion. I always try to land on the bandwagon on my left side.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)I honestly did pick up an ignore about 2 years ago because I was in what I thought was a good debate about priorities. I was just trying to explain that all of us have our own causes and that one persons priority is another's bottom of the list. I felt really bad that she misunderstood my intentions. She deleted all of her responses and put me on ignore.
Okay, so I guess throwing rocks at the driver of the bandwagon is not a good way to get it to stop? Damn. What am I going to do with all these rocks?
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)I'd help you out, but I decided not to IGNORE anyone for any reason. I like to see the full picture here at The DU.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)I may return to the "ignore-free" philosophy. I have to confess that shortly following the two biggest political victories Dems have won in years (Obama wins in 2008 & 12), the post-election behavior at DU has been...well, this isn't the place to bemoan the state of DU, is it?
Suffice to say that I found short-term happiness by putting fifteen posters on ignore and trashing Meta. I now visit the Lounge, GD, Native American and (on occasion) Sports.
So whenever I need the big DU picture explained, I'll bug you.
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)My shortcoming is that I hardly ever read posters names and I have no idea who the new DUrs' are so I never know who is on whose bad list. The people IGNORING me have no idea how much I don't give a shit mainly coz I've been here son long I've figured it out. It's a forum. LOL!

(12,132 posts)mine went up for being pro-gun - inasmuch as a liberal dem can be, that is.
I think I am pretty close to Kaleva in my thoughts on guns so I am not sure where on the litmus paper that puts me. But clearly it was not far enough to one end.

(32,083 posts)I was down to 1 at one point. I have no idea who they are, nor do I care. I guess they don't like the "colorful" language I tend to use. Oh well. Not going to stop me from using it. Either that, or I occasionally say nice things about the President, and I guess that makes me a "cheerleader" to be put on Ignore.
I think that if you subscribe to a forum, and someone "trashes" the whole forum, it takes the subscribers with them.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)Or we could just snark at each other in the baseball forum.
You are aware that our President is a White Sox fan, and that Joe Ricketts owns the Cubs...get with the program here.
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)I don't hold it against the President for being a White Sox fan any more than I hold it against you for being a Brewers fan. To each his own.
And, Joe Ricketts doesn't own the Cubs. His kids do, including Laura, a Democratic donor and staunch Obama supporter.

(46,179 posts)I don't have anyone on ignore. I'm strong enough to ignore people when necessary without hiding them, lol.
If I were to guess, I'd say there are 5 die-hard, partisan, party-first "centrists" ignoring me, since I am stubborn, independent, and leftist enough to piss that sub-group off, and I don't give a shit about it.
As a blue-dog, you might get pissed, too. You don't have to ignore me to ignore me, though.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)I'm clearly not trying hard enough.
I'm thinking of changing my avatar to the DLC logo and posting a lot of pro-third way threads -- would that help?
LWolf
(46,179 posts)Not for me; I just find it easier to ignore particular threads or posts, rather than whole people.
Unless you want to put me on ignore for being a loony lefty socialist, you're stuck with me.

(59,440 posts)I just think IGNORING posters is dumb. Poor frail little DUers can't handle DU as is was.
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)I don't have anyone on ignore. Frankly, I'd rather have someone tell me out front that they don't like me and why. Air it all out.
I think it's childish anyway to hide all the posts of another member.
As a matter of fact, I might be willing to start a thread inviting everyone else to tell me what they don't like about me.
I'm pretty self-confident enough to handle the criticism.
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)Besides, if they're cowardly enough to put me on ignore, I really don't think that they'd be honest with me enough to tell me what their problem with me is.

OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)I've been here since 2006, IIRC. I've mostly tried to adhere to the "no one on ignore" rule. Late last year, after the election, I reached two conclusions.
1) Meta is like watching a train wreck. It has nothing to do with the things I like about this site, and yet I end up getting drawn into it's vortex of self-righteous indignation. Since I spend too much damn time on the internet as it is, my conclusion was that trashing Meta was a simple way to ensure that the time I spend here is in productive &/or enjoyable pursuits.
2) Recently, a more-than-usual number of people on this site, IMHO, have become insufferable twits. These individuals (who shall remain nameless) either attack everyone who does not share 100% of their worldview, or display a smug I-know-better-than-you attitude, or both. I identified fifteen who were consistently annoying, and put them on ignore. In a perfect world, 12 of those 15 are the ones who have me on ignore; then all would be right in everyone's world. Anyway, my viewing experience has drastically improved as a result.
FYI, I don't ignore people because I disagree with them on issues. On the contrary: IRL, I have many friends and family members who are wingnuts, and we all get along pretty well.
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)I'm usually here and in GD. I'm comfortable in GD to handle myself in most situations. I also stay away from complicated fights over nothing.
When I state my case, I'm usually pretty good at defending myself. Whenever I'm proven wrong about something, I don't mind admitting as much.
They say, "Don't let the assholes get you down", and I don't.
If they're not happy with how I handle my biz, it sucks to be them, I say.

Don't feel bad -- your count will rise soon enough. These things take time. It's perfectly normal for someone of your age to have fluctuations in their ignore count. it's natural, and nothing to be ashamed of.
