The DU Lounge

This is an issue of concern on DU. The hipness of this website is being jeopardized by the use of the outdated term "Jump the shark."
So, in an effort to move the discussion forward I started a thread to entertain alternatives, because the only thing I can come up with is swan song, and that's older than jump the shark.

(28,466 posts)Older than both jump the shark and swan song, but completely undated as there are still bends to go around.
Also, there's always the perennial internet favorite, OTT.

(16,191 posts)The founders sold out, and the new owners killed it off. The more general use of the term died off shortly after the site did.
I don't of anything that has really replaced it. Bone The Fish has tried, but it hasn't really caught on the way it's predecessor did.

(46,705 posts)I would prefer, "even Elizabeth Banks couldn't save this shit." But, that doesn't portray the same idea as "Jump the Shark" where something that was once trendy has resorted to something so unfeasible that it lost its trendiness.
