He had a miniature pure-white German shepherd for many years (a sweetheart that
took him a long time to get over when she passed). Though a very bright man AND
a service-dog trainer, he chose as his next dog a mainly chow-mix who followed true
to form for some of the bad chows and became surly and potentially dangerous as
he got into and past his teens. Now, he's worthless as an assist-dog -- can't travel
on the bus NOR serve as the model of behavior in my friend's training classes.

Size (in this instance) doesn't REALLY matter -- often assist dogs are as much
(or even MORE) emotional helpers as physical.
