He was just 3 yo at the time, so most of it was hard to understand, but he really rocked on the chorus.

I actually know someone who was such a fan that she named her daughter 'Cecilia' after the song character. Not sure that she's exactly someone I'd want to be *named after*, but I still like the song!

The Congressman

I’m a pampered rich boy
So my story’s often told
Dad bought my seat in Congress
Through a campaign full of nonsense such are promises,
All lies and jests
But the voters hear the parts they like
And disregard the rest, Hmm-mm-mmm

When I left my home for Washington
I left both of my twin boys
In the company of strangers
Two nannies with pierced noses kept them running scared
Wouldn’t you? They would go flag down police cars,
Telling tales that are not true
Doing just the thing most Congresspeople do:
Lie lie LIE, lie lie lie lie lie lie lie,
Lie lie LIE, lie lie LIE lie lie lie LIE lie lie lie lie LIEEEE

I go begging down on K Street
To finance my next campaign,
But I get no offers,
Just a hint to spend some more time with my family.
I do declare, there were times when I was so hard up,
I’ve spent my weekends there
Lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie

Then I’m laying out my bathing suits
And wishing I was gone
Mexico!
Where the CNN reporters aren’t seeking me
Seeking meeeeeeeeee, Mexico!

In D.C. there stands a Congressman,
Politician by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev’ry contribution and
Cash hand-out, and golf junket
Til he boards his private plane,
“I am leaving, I am leaving,
I R S, I feel your pain!”

Lie lie LIE lie lie lie lie LIE lie lie lie LIE
Lie lie LIE! Lie lie LIE lie lie lie lie!
Lie lie LIE! Lie lie LIE lie lie lie lie LIE lie lie lie lie LIE!

My Senior English teaches on high school {Class of 1969} asserted
that the only contemporary poets were Simon & Garfunkel.
I still cannot refute.

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

For this line alone (although all of the lyrics are so powerful): "When evening falls....so hard."

Next faves: April, Come She Will and For Emily Wherever I May Find Her just for the sheer beauty of Art Garfunkel's voice.

It was always a powerful song, but watching / listening to him sing it to police, firefighters and rescue workers while New York was still in a state of shock took it to a whole new level. Proof that "understated" sometimes equals "amazing."

In both cases songs that were covered much better than the original.

April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;

May, she will stay,
Resting in my arms again

June, she´ll change her tune,
In restless walks she´ll prowl the night;

July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight.

August, die she must,
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold;

September I´ll remember.
A love once new has now grown old.

America is a close second

Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes, and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America
