Now gentle readers, I am not the biggest Country Music fan; however, the country I do like were recorded by the legends like Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn etc etc. I would never EVER promote a modern country record made by those corporate country stars of today (although I will confess, I do have one Shania Twain album in my collection but to be fair, I borrowed it from the library to get it).
On this day in 1968, Johnny Cash would do 2 concerts at Folsom Prison in Folsom California. Cash had always had a fascination with Prison life and it inspired many of his songs including one of his classics - 'Folsom Prison Blues'. Of course with his drinking & drug habit, he even spent a few days in jail although from what I read (and saw in the Cash biopic "Walk the Line" he was not a long time inhabitant of any jail.
So for today's Album of the Day I thought we'd pay tribute to one of the best, if not unique live albums ever recorded. Unique because the entire audience that attended was mainly the prisoners of Folsom County along with some Prison Guards.
