Posted on fb by my sister's best friend, Tina.
Long story but.....I have just arrived home from the home of Joel Hopkins' parents in Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia. I have never felt prouder to claim that little town as the place where my parents were from than now... The surrounding of love and support that I have witnessed throughout this awful tragedy of the five men lost at sea has been astounding.....Joel's family and as well as the other families have had a constant stream of friends, relatives and sometimes just people that felt the sorrow of what they were going through..stop by with home cooked meals or a hug or a tear.... a constant soft knock on the door would bring another local woman with a casserole, pie or fresh fish to be cooked by another standing guard at the stove ready to heat and serve. Some would be doing laundry, some dishes, some starting fundraisers..some just holding hands.
Then the heavier boots would be kicked off at the door and the men would surround the table to pour over ocean maps with George ,Nathan and Jesse to try and figure out where the boys were and how to bring them home. There was always a strong hand on one of their shoulders to try and lift their spirit and hope.
God Bless the local men that went out in boats to help find the boys or bring attention to the issue...especially the divers that risked themselves to help.....God Bless all of you that are coming together to help my dearest friend in all the world ,her family and the other families..............I did not want to leave and go home but leaving them in such loving hands made it easier.......Woods Harbour is a very special place because of the wonderful people that live there...that foggy, salty air must be made of something magical.....I wish I had been lucky enough to spend more than just summers there....God Bless and thank you all....

Would that we had their humanity!

(716 posts)3. Take care and pass around a lot of DU hugs, mine included of course.
The questions he raised were quite valid, except that the reports I saw indicated they pulled back due to continuing nasty weather, but it did seem to be slow overall. It's funny, but the assemblies of other countries seem to function while ours gets locked up in bullshit. Perhaps that will change one day, but I'm not holding my breath.
Peace be with you.
