4,755 gallons of Chivas Regal accidently flushed down a drain in Scotland

I wonder how it will affect the fish downstream. Will they have a party?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/02/28/scotch-flushed-down-drain/1955223/

The night shift at a Chivas Brothers distillery screwed up this week and accidentally flushed about 6,000 gallons of Scotch whisky down the drain, according to reports from Scotland.

The 80-proof goof happened early Tuesday at a bottling plant in Dumbarton, where workers were cleaning equipment. Instead of purging the waste water, they instead expelled 18,000 liters of bulk whisky into the local sewage system.

"It was like someone turned on a tap and it just ran straight down the plughole," an "insider" toldThe Scottish Sun.

No one at Chivas noticed until 11 a.m., but local sewage crews had gotten a good whiff of the scotch-and-water problem and were attempting to identify the source long before the distiller reported what had happened.

I wondered a bit about that myself, but was too lazy to do the conversion.

Still a shitload of Scotch.

and at one point we hitched a ride with a guy somewhere in the Highlands. So we're going through this little town and suddenly catch the unmistakable smell of Scotch. A little bit up the road we see a huge wooden barrel lying broken open in the street (apparently it fell off a lorry), and a large quantity of whisky (that's how they spell it) flowing along the gutter. A lot of people were standing around looking sad.

Never have seen what the big deal was with the stuff. Then again, I don't drink any liquor straight. Too strong for my throat. I'll take a good margarita any day in its place

18,000 liters of cleaning water were bottled and sold as whisky. Said Angus Scott, who accidentally purchased and drank a bottle of it, "I thought it tasted a bit weak."

I guess by the time management found out what happened it was too late for blood alcohol tests. Funny how that works.
