Don't forget the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra either:

(29,414 posts)And now I have to go looking for more of the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. Do ska bands know how to dress, or what?
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)Perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I always dressed like a Ska musician, or like the blues brothers, back in the 90's when I had to wear a suit to work. I'm lucky that I ended up with all my dad's, and grandfathers late 50's and early 60's slim ties, tie tacs, fedoras, shoes, rain coats, cuff links etc.
And whoa, thankfully, there is a ton of stuff on you-tube for TSPO.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)I've never had suits or other dress-wear for that kind of purpose. It would have been cool to go to music shows like that
TSPO looks like they'd be a great band to see live

(5,604 posts)For about 3 years in a row I got a call about 7:00 pm on Halloween to remove a body from the hospital, so I meandered really slow with the hearse, monster mash blaring loud, through neighbourhoods on the way back.

(6,261 posts)This might not be entirely what you're looking for, but this music made me fall in love with classical music when I was around 13 or so. Never did learn how to dance, but I danced to this in the privacy of my own bedroom.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)I grew up with classical music. I can't dance. So when I hear this piece, I visualize a comedy of slapstick errors of people who can't dance. Not so graceful people like us

That sounds about right. I felt like dancing like I was floating to the ceiling, but the effect was probably more suggestive of an epileptic monkey.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)but trust me dude, its happened to me too!

(36,429 posts)Here's a contemporary Dutch group, The Beau Hunks, recreating Leroy Shield's famous Hal Roach studio music. All of Leroy's music makes me happy.
Oh, Vince Guaraldi lived above me, on the hill, through my early years. Joy was in the air when he would open the windows and practice in the late afternoons, it could be heard all through the valley. 'Cast Your Fate to the Wind' was my favorite, yet there was another sound that was somewhat similar to 'Cast Your Fate To The Wind', yet different. We soon learned it was the genesis of all the Peanuts/Charlie Brown music.

(6,113 posts)Brother Buzz
(36,429 posts)I first listened to it on a fine old 78rpm, with all the hisses and pops. Covering old blues songs with updated lyrics was not uncommon back in the days. To wit:
The Cheap Suit Serenaders covered some of Leroy Shield's music. Beau Hunks were impressed and contacted them, looking for sheet music and to share insight and knowledge. Leroy Shield's studio music was never published so there was none to be found - The Beau Hunks learned it by watching a lot of old films. They nailed it.
The founding member of the Cheap Suits burned me a copy of The Beau Hunks first album. I gave it to my aging Pops. Pops loved it and rediscovered his 'Happy feet'.

(5,604 posts)I Looooooove garage bands (played in many!). And growing up in southern Ontario, the Swinging Medallions got a lot of local airplay. That is one of my all time favorite tunes, right up there with Warm California Sun by the Rivieras, and also of course, the Sonics. (never mind that the video that has nothing to do with the band)
