Take a whack at two of my issues/questions: 1) Erratic threads, and 2) Me vs local Cowboys fans

Eternal question #1: Why do erratic thread topics thrive whilst earnest ones sink like a rock?!1

Viz., guess which category: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002167888

It's not *just* me since I'm not a bizarre life form, but my posting quality runs a spectrum from, say, "erratic" on one end to brilliant, creative, caring, perceptive, witty, gorgeous, glorious --- well, I just can't plumb the profundity of my other end of the spectrum. But here's the crux: Any and almost all of my "good end" threads sink like a stone, but if I *ever* (O.K., frequently) drop my eternal vigilence and post ONE little idiotic O.P., it is *sure* to attract hundreds of hits, not to mention a contingent of harsh, hard-nosed, merciless Replies -- you'd think that I am, indeed, a bizarre life form.

Although there have been some sure fire hits, like back in the day, anything about how detestable "Dr" Laura is.

Eternal question #2: Who's more irrational, (some) Cowboys fans or me?!1

So there's this lovable neighborhood/family Happy Hour dive that really is one of life's delights. Yet, besides sports in general, it is an infestation of Cowboys worship. Now, I'm not a jock, was in the band, but have had to learn some Basic Sports in order to participate in that setting. Not strategy of the game, just mindless cheering for Anybody-But-the-Cowboys and other forms of taunting. Well, the Cowboys fans that I know there are scurrilous to all other teams as well. One time an actual thinking human who happened to be a Cowboys fan asked me quietly why I hate that team and I said, excepting him, that my general experience has been that Cowboy fans are redneck barbarians. Perhaps it's my limited sports view since it's possible that MOST? sports fans of any stripe, such as rioting soccer fans, are that way?

Anyway, here's what happened: A fellow customer who is a Cowboys fan is an older fellow, seldom talks, is aloof. He has only responded to routine "hellos" from me occasionally. Fine. A couple of times, when there were championship games, he DID initiate conversations with me. One time he smilingly brought up the Cowboys thing against me, but then said that his son also hates the Cowboys. So I thought we had had a breakthrough and left it at that, him in his spot, me in mine. So now I was talking to somebody else and we were discussing something on the t.v. news and I said something disparaging about ARPAIO. So this aloof fellow, who was not in this conversation, said to me, "Your racist hero, ARPAIO" or something like that. Now, I appreciate that it was a clumsy joke, but it was irritating. I said, "Why would ARPAIO be a hero of mine? And what have I ever done TO YOU?!" He paused to think of something, then came up with, "You hate the Cowboys." I said, "So does your son!"

But my point is, besides a stupid "joke," are (some) sports fans SO dense that they equate sports disputes with RACISM, or otherwise willing to assault, verbally and even physically, somebody because of SPORTS?!1 I'm not exaggerating, some of the younger thugs are perfectly willing to beat somebody to death over their fanhood.

Then there's always my own idiocy: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Or getting upset myself when I get the predictable results?

also good topics are often read but not commented on - same with some fo the good or funny pictures...sometimes "views" tell more than replies.
