Favorite car named after an Outer Banks village?

I vote for Corolla.

It's ironic because when the car made its debut you could only get to Corolla by driving up the beach, and you sure as hell couldn't do that in a Corolla.

Anyhow, what's yours?

I once went to a Motorhead show and the Rev was the opening act. I went in not really sure who he was but I came out a Reverend Horton Heat fan.

And I haven't met a RHH song I didn't like either.

The rear window's about 40' long (well, it at least LOOKS like it's that long).

I don't even know where the hell Alphaville is, frankly. It has been to N. Carolina, but mostly stayed in MD, VA, and PA.

It's a Jean-Luc Godard film about a secret agent (Lemmy Caution) sent to The Outerlands and Alphville to stop a dictatorial scientist and his super-computer there. He "travels" there in his Ford Galaxie.

If you look it up on wikipedia, they say it's a Mustang, but that's wrong.

I think the '68 was the prettiest of them all, but that might be a biased opinion. The '63 was really nice too. The sedans were popular cop cars, as was the LTD and it's descendant, the Crown Victoria. The 427 Galaxie was a popular interceptor. The 390 and 427 were bolt-for-bolt compatible. The main difference was the bore. Well, and the 427 had a side-oiler option, but that was mostly the racing engine. My owners manual says not to do more than 70 mph in 1st gear. I've shifted out of 1st at 75. Not much can take her.

If you search the 'net away from Wikipedia, you'll find other sources that dispute the 'Mustang' link. And I know I've seen Robert Osborne on TCM state it was a Ford Galaxie, so someone isn't doing their research. Here's a Google Books result that calls it a Galaxie, too. (http://books.google.com/books?id=R6SL2AJIOfEC&pg=PP13&lpg=PP13&dq=alphaville+lemmy+ford&source=bl&ots=ysEn1OD27Z&sig=_kSW8cj6iuzrb08R5c0-y_YQgTY&hl=en&sa=X&ei=GJ4VT9_nEcSE2wX68MSFCg&ved=0CEEQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=alphaville%20lemmy%20ford&f=false)

Oh, and this car might beat the Galaxie in any gear

The book references a "Galaxy". Ford has never sold a car with that spelling in the US. The muscle/police car was "Galaxie". The former is a more recent MPV that's sold outside the US and looks like a small Windstar. It has no ancestors in the LTD/Galaxie or Fairlane lines.

I've never seen the movie, but it looks like fun.

The Oldsmobile Beireuter. It did have a certain ring to it.

Not an outer banks Village, of course, but a town just the same.

The originally concept vehicle, Kitty Hawk, was a wheelbarrow. When it was discovered the wheelbarrow flew over sand, the production name was shortened.

They'd attach a lantern to a horse's head and walk it up the beach so ships would mistake it for another ship's light.

When the ship came in to investigate it would run aground.

Free lumber and anything else the Bankers could loot, er, salvage from the ship.
