Liar!
Ikonoklast
(23,973 posts)Look at Deckard's haircut in that movie. Really look at it.
There is no real human being that would ever walk around looking like that.
Only a Replicant with little or no style sense and that didn't even know enough about being human would deliberately let himself be seen in public with a haircut that bad!
I rest my case.
You are wrong.
So there.
Orrex
(63,220 posts)However, for all we know, Curious George may indeed have a big influence on human (NOT REPLICANT) hairstyles.

(23,973 posts)The answer is "No."
Better watch it, or I'll make sure your ancestors get eaten by lions.

(63,220 posts)And Prometheus totally sucked!

Hope those prehistoric lions are good and hungry.
Yeah, Prometheus blew chunks. I wanted them all to die before it was over.

(49,038 posts)In this one it was pretty damned ambiguous. Ford thought he was human, Scott thought he was a replicant, and the writers wanted it ambiguous.
The film would be a minor cult classic if the Final Cut were released first. Without the overdub it loses a lot of the noir atmosphere that sold it, and with the ending basically mimicking Rachel's own discovery that she was a replicant, it just means nothing. If Deckard is human, you have a complex analysis of the nature of life and identity. If Deckard is a replicant, you have a silly "It was all a dream" ending that sounds sophomoric and uses the same device twice. It would be like a Neil Peart drum solo--lots of pizazz, but no soul.

(23,973 posts)That should fix at least one vexatious tugger of loose ends here.

(12,723 posts)Moon and Inception being newer films I have only seen those once. The others I have seen at least 3 or more times and I own DVDs or BluRays of about half of them.
I was really hoping there would be something here I had not seen.
Still, it is a fine list, nothing I would throw out.
Ghost in the Shell, the original one at least is very good with great music.
I love Primer like few films I have seen. It cost 7,000 dollars to make and tells a truly mind-blowing tale of time travel. Highly recommended. It is currently available on Netflix Instant.

I was wondering what others thought of Primer. That was one very very odd movie, but I certainly enjoyed watching it.

(26,117 posts)I haven't seen these:
Alien (!)
Brazil
Ghost In The Shell
Primer
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Moon
District 9
Inception
I watched Forbidden Planet last night (on TCM HD) - it looked great.
I caught Children of Men one day while channel surfing - and I couldn't turn away. Good movie.

(8,217 posts)Metropolis
The Day The Earth Stood Still - I saw the Keannu one... but that doesn't count.
Forbidden Planet
Planet Of The Apes
2001: A Space Odyssey
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Blade Runner
Tron
Brazil
Primer
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - I have this on DVD, waiting to watch it at a special occasion
Moon

Tron - I saw the new one too.
Ghost In The Shell - I prefer the Manga. The movie was ok, but since I read this first I couldn't get in to it.
The Incredibles - The Pixar one? I loved this movie.
Children Of Men - Awesome movie. This one was so good.
District 9 - It is ok. A little slow, but decently done for what it is.

(36,649 posts)How could they not list Close Encounters?
Carpenter's The Thing?
And:
Akira
A Clockwork Orange
12 Monkeys
Serenity
They Live
Galaxy Quest
Cronenburg's The Fly
Dark City
Wall-E
And that's just off the top of my head.

(5,909 posts)I loved T2--poor Edward Furlong--I thought he was so cute, but I loved the first Terminator. I always watch bits and pieces when it's on.
Surprised it's not on the list. Loved Brazil---I recently watched The Hunger Games--wasn't impressed, but the makeup reminded me of Brazil.

(14,910 posts)I have seen exactly three of those movies.
Sci-Fi never did anything for me, kung fu/martial arts films...same thing.
Now my wife on the other hand, she's a buff in this genre...
Sci-Fi movie gets put on in our house...nap time!

I would add: Silent Running, The Andromeda Strain, Westworld, Logan's Run, and Outland.

(34,137 posts)Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, or Primer.
I've read a good amount about Primer - the dissection of the timeline and other stuff. It sounds really intriguing.
I tried to watch Ghost in the Shell but Japanese anime art style bothers me so I stopped watching part way through. I tried to watch Alien but it's just too gory and violent for my tastes. I prefer the older style of SF where most of the gore is left to your imagination - think the The Thing from Another World (1951) vs. The Thing (1982) - Alien is magnitudes worse.
I tried to watch Inception last year but it was while I was still taking lots of drugs (for my knee replacements, not for fun) and I couldn't follow the plot. I'll have to watch for it being re-run somewhere.
Moon and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind don't really sound like my kind of movie - too much introspection.

(15,586 posts)Aliens vs Alien. There was very little actual screen violence in Alien, in fact the Alien only appears briefly.
