It's not a doctrinal issue, because that's not the fault of the flock. Nor is it a hierarchical matter, for the same reason.
No, it's because of those damned Fillet o' Fish commercials that I have to endure every Lent. If people didn't go for that whole no-meat-on-Friday thing, the Fillet would remain an unsung menu afterthought all 365 days of the year. Instead, we have to put up with those insipid "Fishy Fishy" commercials for weeks on end.
Thank you, people. Thank you very much.

(17,742 posts)How about a million dollars? I bet you'd eat there for that.
So, as they say, the only real issue is your price.

(8,217 posts)That Fishey Fishey commercial grates on my nerves and it almost makes me want to shoot somebody.
Not that I have a gun or anything. I don't have one, and don't plan to get one any time soon. I'm happy with my swords.
I was born cathlolic but I don't follow that for lent.
For Lent, I've given up smoking. ((I don't smoke))

(72,300 posts)Catholics were directly responsible for pizza day in the school cafeteria. Because they used to not eat meat on Friday all year round, and they were by far the majority out here on Long Island (still are, I'm sure.) the school just served pizza every single Friday. It wasn't good pizza, but it was closer to edible than most things they served and was popular. This survived long after the no meat on Fridays rule was revised - just in case - and was still Friday's menu when my kids went to school. So, thank you, Catholics, for one day out of the week when there was no danger of Mystery Meat.

No, seriously.
Seriously!

Kroc was debating between that and the Filet o Fish as a means to attract Catholics to McDonald's during Lenten Fridays.
And who wouldn't rush over to McDonald's at the savory prospect of eating a grilled pineapple cheese sandwich????

That's from the border crossing scene.
"Hey, man. Look. They're busting nuns!"
