To buy a laptop or buy a tablet; that is the question.

I was planning to buy a laptop but yesterday looked at a tablet I liked.

To me the main difference is the weight of the thing.

1. Just got Mrs GoS a iPad2 - which she loves and hates equally

All depends on what you want the puter to do.

Tablets are great for email, web, some minor word processing (depending on the app), music downloads and ebooks.

Do you do any serious image manipulation, number crunching, programming? Then you need a laptop.

2. We just purchased a laptop.

We looked at the tablet vs. laptop. At the end of the day, we spent less for a reconditioned 17" laptop @$450.00 that was a couple of hundred less than a 10" tablet. Obviously, the form factor and how you plan to use it is important, but we couldn't justify spending more to get less.

4. If I could only have one

I would get a real nice net book or 12in laptop before I would get a tablet. It really depends on what you want it for as a main computer a tablet would not cut it for me.
