Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

and 28 Days Later came out pretty close to each other, so I doubt they had time to copy each other.

Robert Kirkman had talked about this a lot. The first issue of The Walking Dead was submitted to the publisher in final form before 28 Days Later opened in theaters. The second issue of The Walking Dead was being penciled when RK saw 28 Days Later. He spoke to the publisher and the cost and time delay that would result fro trying to re-stage the entire first issue was considered too high given the issue. RK made the final call to leave it as it was and he has said that he regrets that decision. In hindsight, he wished he would have delayed publication and staged Rick as being detained in some other way from the breakout of the apocalypse. Oh well, I think both pieces stand out as wonderful contribution to the zombie genre. I enjoyed the films, the comic books and now the TV series. But I pretty much read and watch anything about the zombie genre.
