Back in the early '70s, I think the playground equipment was designed to weed out the weak. "Safe" meant "securely fastened to the ground".

We had to pile the bodies of children who where maimed beyond recognition by the equipment around the legs of said devices in order to successfully maim ourselves beyond recognition. It was a self-feeding system.

Our goal was always to see which kid sailed the furthest off the end and broke the tailbone first.
