It's by Ommegang. I like their Three Philosphers beer. Next shopping trip I'm looking for this.

(9,077 posts)haven't reviewed it yet, but it's Ommegang so it should be good.

(12,132 posts)when you get around to it? I'm definitely interested in your take on it. I've only had their Three Philosophers and I liked that so I have high hopes for this.

(9,077 posts)From the Ommegang website:
Brewery Ommegang and HBO are partnering on a series of beers in support of the critically-acclaimed drama Game of Thrones. Launching in tandem with the season three debut, Iron Throne is the inaugural beer in the series.
Iron Throne is a blonde ale at 6.5% ABV and brewed with a robust amount of pils, honey malt, aroma malts and red wheat. Gentle hopping includes Styrian Golding and Hallertau Spalter Select, appropriately noble hops. Spiced with grains of paradise and lemon peel. Hue is a slightly hazy golden amber. Head is full and fluffy. Finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. Aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. Taste is lightly malty, rounded out by honey malt sweetness.
Available in limited quantities in 750ml bottles and 1/6 BBL kegs starting in late March 2013.

(9,077 posts)I'm drinking a 5.3% Saison right now that is very good. I've had higher ABV brews that stunk. If you're drinking for the flavor, the ABV is irrelevant.

(14,749 posts).....Is that the US craft beer that ends up in the UK usually isn't session beer.
The good news is that that's plenty of amazing session ales being made by UK brewers! Usually on cask as well.
HarveyDarkey
(9,077 posts)There are good American session beers, they're just not from Bud, Miller or Coors.
I've seen UK reviewers review some of them, but mostly it's the higher ABV brews.
I know Sierra Nevada has good distribution in the UK, most of their year round releases are good session beers.
T_i_B
(14,749 posts)It's widely available.
Sierra Nevada have done a 5% beer called Twin Peaks in collaboration with Thornbridge, a highly rated brewery near where I live. However, the beer was a massively over-carbonated disappointment IMHO. Both breweries make much better stuff then that.
