I am a long term fan, actually a trekkie. I enjoyed the series reboot, and will see it again in regular format. 1. THE FANS many wore shirts from the various shows , I wore a black Borg polo, Ms. Wonderful had a Picard shirt on, down the aisle were a 'red shirt' w/ expendable printed on it, the guy next to me wore next generation command shirt, a few pointed ears were on. I also note the first show were mostly appeared 50 to 20, mostly white. These tickets were pricey in comparison for me, in comparison to the cheap show I usually choose., so I make the assumption (and this is only my observation) middleclass. 2.IMAX 3D impression: The IMAX/3D format was interesting since this was my first time seeing a film in that format; I wear bifocals and have an eye issue that affects my depth perception, there were 3Dglasses that fit over my normal glasses, and they were handed to us still warm and very very slightly damp from a cleaning. For me, the glasses were pretty cool, and while I would remove them to peek over during action sequences, to see the visual differences, I wouldn't pay the extra money to see this movie more then once in 3D. I likely will use them for the other blow-em-up scifi flicks this summer. 3. Costumes & F/X & MAKEUP Bad Robot spends their money very well. The current bridge command, science, security and medical were true to previous, the earthside ones, didn't grab me. I would spend money for one of the current bridge fabrics. The 2 urban Earth settings were .....slightly sad for me, but I won't go into detail since they get too close to spoilers. The Federation ships and other starships were true to form, there was a goosebump producing shot with the Enterprise. The non humanoid characters, makeup and costuming were good, and one species will make me look up the make up artists, I thought it was that good. They only dislike I really had in costuming was for Scotty, and that is a very minor complaint. 4. CHARACTERS. I don't want to put any spoilers here, I will only say, until the movie is in wide release, I LOVED the character development of ALL of the main and secondary characters, this leads to ....***5.PLOT. ***trying to be very delicate here***I saw many layers of texture in the story and, just for me, it held up very well. I would discuss via PM the plot with other DUers.

(33,054 posts)I saw, reluctantly, Iron Man on disc at home, I was doing chores while Ms Wonderful was playing the CD, I stopped in mid chore to watch. I hope I enjoy the 3rd one as much.

(33,054 posts)This will be short, I feel the need to rewatch Star Trek 2009, be fore I go into deeper detail. We saw that one on opening night with a different gaggle of trekkies, in regular format, I don't recall any fans in costume , we also wore a Trekkie shirts, can't recall which one tho. I bought the DVD the first week they became available and have played it 2 times in the last 3 weeks in anticipation of this sequel. As much as I can recall from the characters with out a very current viewing, the first film had to be Kirk & Spock centered to set the future movies. The secondary characters with one exception(for me) were could not be developed as much as the leads. McCoy & Sulu were not full characters yet, they were very similar to the older show. Chekhov was a fun kid at 17, Uhura had much more going on in the 2009 movie then the late 60's show. Since I have an opinion about that character, I'd rather keep to PM, so I don't slip a spoiler. I liked the FX, the way Spock Prime was used. I cannot recall anything about the off earth characters, except for Nero, and I really really enjoyed the actor and his character. I will speak more to this later tonight, likely after 9, my time. Thanks for the question.

(12,008 posts)You are making two contradictory statements. 1. you are a trekkie, and 2. you enjoyed the "reboot."
Only one of these things can be true. Please explain. Does not compute.
