Looking for words to help explain an oppressive situation.

I'll provide an example of a situation, and I need help finding the right way to describe it.

Let's say a corporation's leaders were involved in fraud and conspiracy, and one of their clients turned around and sued them in federal court. Before the case was tried they entered into a settlement agreement with a confidentiality clause. Now this is where it gets interesting: Imagine that these leaders then turn around and tell all the stockholders that the confidentiality clause applies to them, and they cannot talk about the case. But if they did talk about it, they would uncover that they were also victims of the fraud and conspiracy.

It would not only be an oppressive situation, but intimidating tactics would be used to keep people in line. And those who tried to step up and speak up would be ostracized. To make matters worse, a chosen few would be rewarded for keeping others in line.

For the life of me, every time I try to find the two or three words that strung together could explain the feelings that this evokes, I'm unable to find them.

malfeasance in the legal field.

Imagine that. Hiding malfeasance and legal malpractice with more malfeasance and legal malpractice.

Hey, where else but Florida? Right?

Florida does not have the monopoly on malfeasance in the legal field.

Canada is not as nice as the world perceives it to be.

The country, land? - yes.

But since we lost Chretien as our leader, Martin and Harper have led our country downhill.

I cannot honestly say I am proud to be a Canadian.

Look at our tar sands mess . . .

Our government sucks.

But I still would rather be here than in the USA.
