Took a day trip to Squamish with my parents the other day, about an hours drive from Vancouver. First time I was out of the house in a week sadly lol. Too bad it was overcast, we've had some great weather recently. Anyway I took some pics of The Chieftain while there.
The Chieftain is a natural rock formation just outside of Squamish that is a well known spot for rock climbers and hikers, you can hike up the back side. These pictures don't really do it justice as the formation towers over much of the town.
The drive up there is along a section of the Sea to Sky highway which has some amazing views. These aren't my pictures but they capture the drive:
The highway has been updates a lot since the Winter Olympics and is now wider along much of this length and beyond if you want to go to whistler.

(60,010 posts)you got a nice shot of the mountain laurel, and some good clear crisp pics of the mountains and lakes.
I used to take weekend drives with my kids when they were younger, many years ago, over the Cascade Highway
and up to Vancouver, and other mountain roads.
Took a lot of that scenery for granted when I was growing up in the Pac. NW.
'Course, back then we would zip across the border in less than 5 minutes.

(6,154 posts)I think it's a much more common flower but I can't remember the name of it. And the pics of the water aren't mine actually, but thanks. Only the top 4 pics are mine.

(21 posts)The flowering tree is a rhody. It looks like a cultivated one but there are a lot of wild ones growing in this area. They usually have light pink blooms. Is that the plant you were talking about?
The yellow flowers/bushes are scotch broom plants. I love them but everyone else mostly hates them. They can spread and take over the land in a hurry.

(20,776 posts)We went up and rode this old fashion steam locomotive and then took a ferry back down to Vancouver. Lovely trip!

(20,776 posts)Have a lot in common. You have that green bridge, we have our golden gate. Both are on a peninsula, and have a bay. Both have a Chinatown. Its a lovely place, I have been there several times, and have gone to the Garage to watch the Canucks play hockey. I have gone over to Vancouver Island and to that lovely garden there. (It was hard to believe, seeing a palm tree up there, especially with the snow you get during the winter time!) Visited the Aquarium several times. If I had a choice of living in another city, Vancouver would be it. One of the most beautiful cities I have seen in my many travels.

(53,410 posts)I'm glad you got out. And I think all days have their special beauty. I live in the Bay Area and work on the 10th floor where I can see a great deal of the Bay as well as the Berkeley hills. Every day is different. Some days are foggy, some are misty, and some are clear as they can be. It's always beautiful to me.
