They will borrow it, and you, then tell their friends.

(149,757 posts)I would also say that also applies to any good bit of equipment that you don't want ruined, or not returned...
Aerows
(39,961 posts)It's extremely difficult to tell some people no, too.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,757 posts)It is your right to say NO, of course.
Fuck 'em.

(60,010 posts)I don't mind if she comes out and asks directly for a small favor, like fetching her mail when she is away, which is a common courtesy we have here.
But the *hints* and arm twists, that is another story.
Esp. when she has family living here in town that should handle the fallen branches or door that needs painting, etc.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)water sucked out of it because she forgot to put the window up.
Yep.

(7,515 posts)Does your 85-year-old neighbor borrow your things often?
Aerows
(39,961 posts)She's 85, for god's sake. I don't go that old yet. Maybe when I'm closer to 80 I'll consider it, but for now I'm just 40 and that's a little much for me.
LMFAO.
Anyway, she found out I had a wet/dry vac and asked me to suck the water out of the back seat of her car because she left the window open during a deluge, and of course, I got stuck doing that on a Sunday morning because someone else in the neighborhood told her I had one.
Aerows

Lord, I should never step into the Lounge.

(7,515 posts)I will refrain from commenting on just how you described your morning activities! Well, maybe I won't!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)LOL.
I haven't even gotten to try out my new breakmaker yet because of all kinds of bullshit. I got the ingredients at the store this morning.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)It's so nice to see you here!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)and I'm dying to try it out.

(7,515 posts)Make some Russian Black Bread!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Black bread. Oh yes, I will be making some of that. Hell yes, I will be making that. I was told to start slow, though so that I don't fuck everything up since I've never made bread before, and that seemed like good advice.
Trust me, Pumpernickel and Rye? On the table and will be cooked. God I love rich dark breads with cream cheese and with a sandwich.
EDIT: Eww, that sounds sweet. I don't like sweet breads, but Rye? Yum.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)look for Black Bread...it's not the same as Pumpernickel ... the recipe uses a breadmaker!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)which I don't care for at all. If it isn't I'll try it.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 cup rye flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons dark corn syrup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
1 tablespoon caraway seed
1/4 teaspoon fennel seed (optional)
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but the corn syrup, the brown sugar and the cocoa powder. (Yes, I possess instant coffee, and it's for emergency purposes - I also possess instant unsweetened tea).
Oh, and I'd have to use butter instead. I don't use oleo. Ick.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)Let me know if you make it! I'll come over!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I promise. Particularly if it is too sweet. I'm really excited about the breadmaker, though. We'll see how I do with it

Aerows
(39,961 posts)You own a truck and are capable of picking things up that most people can't, and suddenly, you are probably everyone's mover. I'm the handy-woman. I'm, thankfully, too small to be able to haul furniture and prefer small vehicles.
rug
(82,333 posts)They won't borrow it, but they will tell their friends.
DebJ
(7,699 posts)it would be hard to find someone who doesn't own at LEAST one wet-vac!
But never tell, if they don't because yours will be gone, or you will have to be monitoring it LOL.
Generic Brad
(14,276 posts)May I borrow it for a few months?
Aerows
(39,961 posts)and I won't be getting up and out at 7am on Sunday to put it in the back of your truck.
Generic Brad
(14,276 posts)That's pretty much a lot of people's attitudes.
Locut0s
(6,154 posts)Only allow them to borrow the low quality stuff. Good tools make a huge difference and they won't return the high quality ones. I know because I think we have a tool or two of OUR neighbours
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Return your neighbor's tools if they are high quality. And for heaven's sake, don't go over to help them with something and proceed to use them without giving them back.
