here in the U.P. of Michigan.... I took a few pictures but just couldn't capture the awesomeness of the clouds as the above picture did.

I was pretty much in awe of the formation as I had never seen such clouds before.

It's not like these are a new form of clouds only seen in recent years. The fact that they make us think of his painting would make me lean towards that he had seen them rather than he never saw them.

In any case, this form of cloud is beautiful.
