No, I haven't read the books. No, I don't want to hear any more spoilers.

(43,199 posts)2. That happened to me for the big Season One twist.
I made the mistake of reading IMDB message boards. Haven't read them since.
Also had the big death spoiled for me in Season 2 of Boardwalk Empire. That was even worse, given that unlike Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire isn't even based on a book.

(20,176 posts)3. Actually, BE is very loosely based on the first half of the book of the same title.

They changed a lot of names, added and removed people in order to have some artistic freedom. (Most of the people in the show do not exist in the book. Some are based on real people, some are combinations of people and some like Jimmy Darmody are complete dramatic-fabrications.) The book covers every thing from the rise of Louis Kuehnle (The real-life commodore) through the aftermath of prohibition and the casinos moving in.
Nucky Thompson is based on the real-life political boss Nucky Johnson who was never a gangster or murderer; just a really corrupt politician, bootlegger, con-man and political boss. It's beyond question he did factually use violence against political rivals though and was in bed with the NYC mafia.
