She has the say cause its mostly her money. Salem or McMinnville ?
She likes wine and she likes to walk regardless of weather ...I want at least a little music scene as I want to find people to play gigs again .... How far are these places from the PDX airport ?
Any thoughts ?

(15,262 posts)Check out Forest Grove and points west and northwest for rural settings with decent city access via Max or the Sunset Highway. Hillsboro airport too.

(50,130 posts)And McMinnville is probably slightly less, depending on traffic.
Salem is slightly more conservative than McMinnville, which is more artsy fartsy with many transplants from other places. But McMinnville is definitely more "winey".
Have you considered Silverton?
What kind of music do you play? That might have a bearing on your destination. Portland itself has a huge music scene of all kinds of music.

(1,569 posts)Salem is a little far out for regular commuting into the Portland music scene, but there are great small towns within a few minutes of Portland, especially around the East and South sides (Oregon City, Estacada, Gresham). Because PDX is on the East side of Portland, you can be semi-rural (or even full on rural) and still get to the airport pretty easily.

(46,179 posts)I'm heading into Portland tomorrow to meet family coming into PDX. It's going to take me 3-4 hours to get there, depending on traffic and how fast I drive. I like where I live, but somebody wanting to stay connected to the music scene ought to stay west of the mountains.
